Primary objective
To assist the Auditor-General in the discharge of his or her responsibilities under the Audit Act 1995 and other legislation.
Context statement
The NTAGO undertakes independent audits for the Auditor-General who then reports on outcomes of those audits directly to Parliament. The NTAGO's ability to support the statutory responsibilities of the Auditor-General is essential in achieving the mission of helping Parliament to hold Government accountable for its use of public resources.
Key duties and responsibilities
* Assist in coordinating the day-to-day running and project management of engagements, including identifying audit matters and contributing to their resolution.
* Undertake fieldwork for audits, reviews and acquittals, ensuring compliance with relevant standards and reporting, including developing and maintaining quality work papers.
* Assist in the development and maintenance of audit frameworks and methodologies applicable to public sector auditing.
* Ensure adherence to NTAGO's audit methodology, policies, procedures, relevant legislative requirements and Australian Auditing and Accounting Standards and contribute to the development of the methodology.
* Contribute to the delivery of the program of work including scoping, delivery and reporting on engagements.
* Build and maintain effective and collaborative relationships with audit firms, agencies and other external stakeholders.
* Contribute to the content for inclusion in reports to the Legislative Assembly on the results of audits and acquittals.
* Be undertaking either the Chartered Accountants (CA) Program or the CPA Program (if not already completed).

* Ability to identify key issues in a problem, selecting or conducting appropriate research, analysis and evaluation and adapting or developing methodology to achieve this.
* Applying strong technical skills to critically evaluate and comment on relevant information and issues.
* Experience in assisting to prepare reports and complex correspondence in a clear, concise and confident manner.
* Ability to build and sustain collaborative relationships and networks that support consultation and sharing of information to ensure self and others remain informed of issues. Cooperating with people in the workplace and contributing to the team.
* Displays personal drive and integrity through self-motivation to ensure goals are achieved, personal approaches that adhere to the Code of Conduct, commitment to continuous improvement, and the ability to show initiative and work with a degree of autonomy. Awareness and adherence to confidentiality requirements and management of conflicts of interest.
* A tertiary qualification at degree level in a relevant discipline from a recognised tertiary institution
