The Role
We are looking for a Parent Pathway Mentor to join our team, on a casual basis, with the opportunity to progress to permanent part time (up to four days a week) based on business needs. Our Mentors assist parents of young children plan and prepare for employment by the time their youngest child reaches school age. Mentors work with parents and help them access a board range of external services and complementary programs that consider their individual needs. Services and supports will assist parents meet individual needs and goals, help them to care for their family and address both vocational and non‑vocational barriers such as legal, personal (domestic violence), health and environmental (housing) issues.
Key responsibilities include but are not limited to:
* Assisting parents prepare for employment by the time their youngest child reaches school age
* Utilise program framework to help parents identify their education and employment goals
* Work with empathy and be non-judgemental in the development of an individualised Plan for each parent
* Work with parents to identify and address non-vocational barriers such mental health, drug and alcohol rehabilitation, domestic violence and housing. Advise on support services available to address such barriers and assist with referral and connection with services.
* Refer parents to appropriate activities and services to address vocational barriers and improve their work readiness
* Refer parents to appropriate education programs to improve or develop skills or obtain relevant qualifications required to achieve individuals employment goals
* Assist with employment search skills including resume and application preparation, and job searching to identify appropriate opportunities
* Actively assist parents though frequent engagement and tailored support including job searching, interview coaching, reverse marketing to employer and referrals to relevant support services
Essential Criteria
* Minimum Certificate III or working towards in Employment Services, Youth Work, Community Services, Social Work, Education, Health or a related human services field.
* Demonstrated experience in a similar position, or in a transferable field such as community services, education, family support, employment or health - using a strengths based and trauma informed approach to develop and supp0ort the achievement of individualised client support plans.
* High level written and verbal communication skills including the capacity to communicate professionally across a range of stakeholders
* Strong administrative and organisational skills, with the ability to maintain accurate records and manage competing priorities
* Knowledge and/or lived experience of the cultural practices, values and issues that affect Aboriginal people in today's society
* Proven interpersonal and relationship-building skills, with the ability to engage respectfully and collaboratively with families and service providers
* Competence in the use of technology, case management systems and digital communication tools
* Consistent record of reliability and accountability in all aspects of work, with a strong commitment to professional integrity.
* Demonstrated ability to management competing demands, prioritise and meet deadlines
* Ability to work independently and as a member of a high performing team
* Valid National Police and Working With Children (WWCC) Checks
* Valid Current Drivers license [min P2]
