The School of Social Science is seeking Casual Academics for Semester 2 2026. Casual Academics make a rich and important contribution to the School's academic, teaching and research endeavours through the provision of a range of academically focused services and activities.

What We Can Offer
Current School of Social Science HDR students can apply to undertake casual academic positions for the courses listed on the School of Social Science casual academics webpage. These are casual academic appointments. As such, there is no firm advance commitment to ongoing or indefinite work. The casual rate will vary depending on the type of work completed. The marking rate for standard essays is 3,500 words per hour and the pay rate code is AC30A or AC30B. Initial marking hours are based on expected enrolment figures, which may fluctuate in the first few weeks of the semester. After census date, all marking is reassessed using census enrolment figures, which means your allocated hours for marking may increase or decrease depending on student numbers.
Eligibility
Preference is given to current HDR students and HDR students enrolled in the ISSR. Applicants must have work rights in Australia for the duration of this appointment. Visa sponsorship is not available. Current staff or HDR scholarship holders may apply via the internal careers board.

All applicants must nominate their course and/or general subject area preference(s) in the application form and upload:
* A copy of your current CV/resume
* A brief statement addressing: experience in tutoring/facilitating/marking undergraduate or postgraduate coursework; experience using online tools (Blackboard, and other digital tools, e.g., Zoom, Kaltura, or lecture recording software); and knowledge/expertise in the academic content of the course(s)
