Lead strategic procurement for a major regional manufacturer
Alpine MDF Industries is seeking an experienced Procurement Manager to lead our strategic procurement and purchasing function, and deliver strong commercial, risk, and value-for-money outcomes across the business.
Based in Wangaratta, Alpine MDF is one of regional Victoria's largest and most advanced manufacturing operations, employing over 140 people and supplying MDF products to domestic and international markets.
About the role
Reporting to the Chief Financial Officer, this role has accountability for Alpine MDF's end-to-end procurement strategy and governance.
You will lead supplier strategy, contract management, risk management, and procurement performance across raw materials, consumables, services, and capital-related purchasing. Logistics, freight, and warehousing are managed separately through the Supply Chain function, allowing this role to focus squarely on commercial procurement leadership.
This is a senior, hands-on role where you will modernise procurement practices, strengthen supplier accountability, and deliver measurable cost, risk, and performance improvements.
Key responsibilities
* Develop and implement company-wide procurement strategies aligned with business objectives
* Establish and maintain procurement policies, procedures, and governance frameworks
* Lead major supplier negotiations, contract renewals, and framework agreements
* Implement supplier performance management and KPI review processes
* Identify and deliver cost reduction, value improvement, and efficiency initiatives
* Manage procurement-related risk, compliance, and audit requirements
* Provide oversight and leadership to the Senior Purchasing Officer
* Partner with Production, Engineering, Maintenance, Sales, and Finance to support operational continuity and commercial outcomes
* Prepare procurement performance, cost-savings, and risk reports for senior leadership
What you'll bring
* Proven experience in a procurement or purchasing leadership role, ideally within manufacturing or industrial environments
* A hands on approach and willingness to lead from the front
* Strong commercial and negotiation capability with experience managing high-value supplier contracts
* Demonstrated ability to build procurement strategies, governance frameworks, and supplier accountability
* Experience managing procurement risk, compliance, and performance reporting
* Strong stakeholder engagement skills across finance, operations, and technical teams
* Proficiency in ERP or procurement systems and commercial reporting tools
* A proactive, solutions-focused mindset with a commitment to continuous improvement
* Tertiary qualifications in Business, Supply Chain Management, Commerce, or a related field (preferred)
