The Role

Armidale Regional Council is seeking a skilled and motivated Enterprise Risk Management Coordinator to lead the development and implementation of risk and audit systems that support the delivery of high-quality services, programs, and projects. In this pivotal role, you’ll work closely with the executive team and business unit managers to embed effective risk identification and management practices across the organisation.

You will also coordinate the Audit Risk and Improvement Committee and ensure compliance with the Office of Local Government guidelines for Risk Management and Internal Audit. In addition, you will lead the annual insurance renewal process, manage incident investigations related to insurance claims, and maintain Council’s Business Continuity Plan, including regular testing and staff training. You’ll represent Council at Regional Risk Group meetings and develop and deliver a risk management education program for new and existing staff.

You will facilitate internal audit activities, including assurance mapping, developing a risk-based audit program, and reporting to the Audit Risk and Improvement Committee. The role also involves driving business improvement initiatives by analysing processes, recommending system enhancements, and providing training based on audit and compliance reports.

Your work will help embed a culture of resilience, compliance, and continuous improvement throughout Council operations.

About You

You are a strategic thinker with a strong background in risk management, internal audit, and business improvement and bring a proactive mindset to identifying and managing risk. You’re confident in leading initiatives that enhance governance, compliance, and operational resilience and are tech-savvy, analytical, and skilled at translating complex data into meaningful insights and actions.

You’re also a natural collaborator—someone who builds strong relationships across teams and communicates with clarity and purpose. You take pride in your work, support your colleagues, and are always looking for ways to improve systems and outcomes. You are comfortable facilitating training, leading investigations, and engaging with stakeholders at all levels.
