Freedom of Information & Privacy Lead Executive Level 1 All Bureau capital city locations will be considered Position overview The Bureau is seeking an enthusiastic Freedom of Information (FOI) and Privacy Lead to lead the Bureau’s management of obligations under the Freedom of Information Act 1982 (Cth) (FOI Act), Privacy Act 1988 (Cth) (Privacy Act) and the Australian Government Agencies Privacy Code. The role involves providing professional advice to internal decision-makers when responding to requests for information under the FOI Act, managing FOI compliance and administrative activities, leading the implementation of the Bureau’s FOI framework, providing advice to the organisation in relation to privacy matters and privacy compliance, and leading the enhancement of the Bureau's privacy maturity. The role reports to the Manager, Legal Services and Deputy General Counsel, in the Bureau’s Organisational Resilience Program. Role responsibilities The responsibilities of the role include but are not limited to: Lead and manage a small team to process FOI applications (including reviews and appeals) in accordance with the Bureau’s legislative obligations and policy framework, including efficiently liaising with internal and external customers as required, coordinating the Bureau’s response, providing advice to decision-makers on the FOI Act and the administrative law framework as required, preparing correspondence and documents, and seeking legal advice as required. Manage FOI compliance and administrative activities, including reporting to relevant internal and external customers, maintaining accurate and up-to-date records and analysing trends to inform strategic planning and program management. Lead the delivery of the Bureau’s FOI framework including developing and maintaining policies, procedures and templates, and identifying and driving internal initiatives (eg develop and deliver internal training tailored to current needs) as required. Monitor privacy enquiries, reports and complaints and work with the FOI and Privacy officers to investigate and respond in line with the Bureau’s obligations. Lead the further development of the Bureau's privacy compliance maturity through action planning, proactive engagement with Bureau stakeholders and developing appropriate tools and processes. Motivate, mentor and lead people in your team to deliver on initiatives and goals whilst maintaining an inclusive, responsive and effective environment.
