The Fleet Planner is responsible for the efficient and effective planning of pickups and deliveries for local and interstate freight and services. This is achieved by monitoring freight volumes and maximizing truck capacities through effective vehicle allocation and planning for all company, subcontractor and outside hire resources.

Reporting directly into the Branch Manager, the key responsibilities and tasks of this role are however not limited to the following:

* Ensure all pickups and delivered are planned to fully utilize vehicle capacity and timeslotting requirements for customers and to achieve the maximum financial benefit for the business.
* Prompt communication to customers and vendors on collections and deliveries.
* Prompt and effective communications to other external stakeholders who require booking times for collections.
* Complete daily shipping bookings as required.
* Clear and prompt communication to the operations team on the movements of freight and equipment.
* Effectively use Jaix inbound planning screens to ensure all collections and deliveries are allocated and processed.
* Accurate and thorough updating of any times, relevant dates or commentary to customers, suppliers and internal teams.
* Accurate amendments of any shipments, including rolling jobs, where required.
* Planning of effective use permanent subcontractor resources in accordance with daily requirements.
* Effective planning of any other third party outside hire where needed to meet demand in the most efficient and cost effective way.
* Plan the use of the Melbourne Terminal and staff in the most efficient and cost effective manner.
* Adhere to all legislative requirements of mass and dimension when planning pickups and ensure shipments are planned within truck limits.
* Adhere to all legislative requirements of fatigue when planning collections to eliminate risk of fatigue breaches.
* Adhere to any load restraint requirements or customer specific load restraint requirements when planning collections.
* Maintain high level of professionalism when dealing with internal and external customers.
* Ensure prompt communication and issue resolution to all internal and external customer enquiries.

The desired candidate will obtain the below knowledge and skill set:

* Certificate in Transport & Logistics or equivalent is desirable
* Drivers license essential
* Experience within the transport industry or demonstrated experience in a similar role
* Experience using SAP (preferrable)
* Experience in a freight scanning environment (preferrable)
* Excellent communication skills
* Ability to work autonomously and as a member team
* Strong problem-solving skills
* Managing workload, meeting deadlines and being always organized
* Understanding of WHS legislations
* Transport industry compliance requirements
* COR exposure
* Demonstrates willingness and determination to set clear goals strives to attain them and is not deterred by challenges.
* Demonstrates the tendency to contribute ideas and initiate new ways of working and shows enthusiasm.
* Behaves in an honest and trustworthy manner, treats others fairly and is open about one's own misjudgments and any conflicts of interest which may be present.
* Able to maintain sustained level of concentration in a volume processing activity to ensure accuracy and identify errors to be addressed.
* A pro-active attitude, a high degree of initiative and a positive approach
* Is a Team Player and sees the value in supporting their peers wherever possible
* Reliable and always punctual
