PYBAR – a Thiess Company, is a mining services provider with core competencies in metalliferous underground hard rock mining. We deliver a range of projects, from large established mining operations to greenfield developments across Australia. The services we provide range from mine development, production, cable bolting and drilling, raise boring, shotcreting and fleet haulage.
THE OPPORTUNITY
We are seeking motivated Mobile Heavy Diesel Plant apprentices in the first year of their apprenticeship who are eager to build a long-term career in underground mining. If you're in your first year of your trade, PYBAR can give you the support, exposure, and hands-on experience you need to build strong foundations and grow your career.
These positions will be available across our Tasmania and New South Wales divisions, with specific opportunities located in Rosebery (TAS), Orange (NSW) and Armidale (NSW). Working across multiple underground sites, you will gain valuable experience alongside experienced tradespeople, develop your technical skills, and be involved in the day-to-day operations of an established mining services provider.

Our apprentice program is designed to set you up for success with structured learning, on-the-job training, consistent mentoring, and the chance to work on a variety of equipment and projects. By joining PYBAR, you'll gain hands-on experience across a range of underground projects and learn from experienced teams in real site environments. As part of the broader Thiess Group, you'll also have access to long-term career pathways, with the opportunity to develop your skills across both underground and open cut operations.
WHAT YOU WILL NEED TO SUCCEED
Currently enrolled in first year of Heavy Diesel apprenticeship
A genuine interest in building a trade career within the underground mining industry
Commitment to completing your apprenticeship
Strong drive to learn and develop new skills
Excellent communication skills - both written and verbal
A positive, can-do attitude with the ability to work well in a team
Ability to follow safety instructions and contribute to a positive safety culture
Current Australian Drivers Licence (Essential)
Hold or be willing to obtain a current National Police Clearance (Essential)
Ability to pass pre-employment medical and site access requirements
