About The Opportunity
Join a ground-breaking program making a real difference in the lives of vulnerable children. The Elver Program is a state-wide, trauma-informed, outreach-based multidisciplinary service that delivers specialist assessments and interventions to some of the most vulnerable children in Out-of-Home Care (OOHC) in NSW. A unique and innovative partnership between the Department of Communities and Justice (DCJ) and South Western Sydney Local Health District (SWSLHD), Elver offers an unparalleled opportunity for experienced and passionate psychiatrists to work at the intersection of mental health, child protection, and trauma care. Based in Parramatta and part of DCJ's Intensive Support Services (ISS), the Elver Program services metropolitan Sydney with the capacity to deliver outreach to rural and remote areas across NSW.
We are seeking a committed and enthusiastic Staff Specialist Psychiatrist to join our senior multidisciplinary team. You will provide trauma-informed psychiatric assessments and contribute to the treatment planning for children and adolescents in OOHC, many of whom have experienced complex trauma.This position offers a dynamic and fulfilling working environment with a high level of inter-agency collaboration, clinical diversity, and professional development. The role is employed by SWSLHD and seconded to DCJ, allowing you to benefit from the resources, support, and collegial networks of both systems.

What You'll be doing
We are seeking a committed and enthusiastic Staff Specialist Psychiatrist to join our senior multidisciplinary team. You will provide trauma-informed psychiatric assessments and contribute to the treatment planning for children and adolescents in OOHC, many of whom have experienced complex trauma. The role is employed by SWSLHD and seconded to DCJ, allowing you to benefit from the resources, support, and collegial networks of both systems.
Where You'll Be Working
SWSLHD Inpatient Mental Health Services provide comprehensive care across several facilities, including the newly redeveloped Campbelltown Hospital and Liverpool Hospital. These services offer a safe and therapeutic environment for individuals with acute and non-acute mental health needs.

The multidisciplinary teams, consisting of professionals with diverse mental health expertise, deliver exceptional care through specialised units such as the Mental Health Intensive Care Unit, Adult Acute Unit, and Older People's Mental Health Unit. The service is committed to patient safety and high-quality care, maintaining external accreditation with the Australian Council on Healthcare Standards.

With active teaching and research links to various universities, SWSLHD Inpatient Mental Health Services provide excellent opportunities for professional development and career advancement.

How to Apply

1. Current medical practitioner, registered, or eligible for registration, with the Medical Board of Australia and Fellow of The Royal Australian and New Zealand College of Psychiatrists (FRANZCP) and/or other specialist recognition as provided under the Staff Specialists (State) Award and Certificate of Advanced Training in Child and Adolescent Psychiatry (RANZCP) or equivalent
2. Demonstrated current clinical practice of a high standard and ability to adapt clinical practice in accordance with contemporary evidence based best practice
3. Demonstrated commitment to quality improvement, patient safety and risk management
4. Demonstrated participation in teaching and training at undergraduate and/or post graduate level, including supervision of junior medical staff
5. Demonstrated commitment to continuing self-education and development, including evidence of participation in continuing medical education/ continuing professional development
6. Demonstrated ability to comply with the service objectives of a public health organisation, including the provision of services to the local community, effective utilisation of resources, and preparedness to participate in the provision of health services at an LHD level
7. Preparedness to participate in a hospital, service or LHD on-call roster
8. Evidence of ability to work cooperatively with other staff and practitioners and in a multidisciplinary health care team.
