Aboriginal Strategy & Partnerships Lead (Identified)

Overview
Tamworth Regional Council is committed to developing its cultural capability and connection to the Aboriginal community through the creation of this new role. The Tamworth region aims to grow to a population of 100,000 as outlined in the region's Blueprint 100 plan. This role will support local Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander communities, collaborate on the Mara Ngali Agreement between TACCO and TRC, and advance the Closing the Gap strategy with place-based solutions and meaningful local initiatives.
The Opportunity
* Engage local people to protect and celebrate Aboriginal culture in the community using kinship and connections
* Lead initiatives to embed culture and meet Closing the Gap targets
* Develop impactful policies and build partnerships with Indigenous communities
* Deliver projects and reports on employment, procurement and cultural inclusion
Key Responsibilities
* Lead and drive Council's progress in achieving Closing the Gap targets
* Develop policy and strategy to embed Aboriginal cultural awareness throughout the organisation
* Develop and leverage relationships with Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander organisations, communities and relevant government departments
* Oversee projects and initiatives addressing Closing the Gap targets
* Deliver practical progress in recruitment, retention, contractor procurement, partnerships and investment opportunities related to Closing the Gap
* Provide accurate reporting on Closing the Gap targets, including Aboriginal cultural inclusion metrics
Qualifications & Requirements
* Applicants must identify as Aboriginal or Torres Strait Islander by descent and be accepted in the community
* Degree in Social Policy, Community Development, Social Sciences, Community Services or relevant equivalent experience
* Driver Licence
* Working With Children's Check (WWCC)

* Confirmation of Aboriginal and/or Torres Strait Islander descent with application (via letter from a community organisation or statutory declaration as specified)
Salary & Benefits
Salary range: Grade 19 – $112,011.74 - $121,200.39 per annum plus superannuation for a 35 hour work week. Salary may be negotiated based on skills and experience. Flexible working arrangements may be considered by mutual agreement.
