About the role:
The Practice Nurse will play an active role in supporting the ongoing development of the physical and sexual health stream. The Practice Nurse is responsible for providing person-centered support, education, referral, and advocacy to young people aged between 12-25 years regarding their physical, sexual, mental, and psychosocial health. This role will work closely with key stakeholders and the Community Engagement team to promote health and wellbeing in the community and within secondary schools. The Nurse will also build capacity within the multidisciplinary team by providing secondary consultation.
We are looking for someone who can provide:
* 1:1 health education around issues relevant to young people including sexual health, substance use, body image, nutrition, exercise, immunisations, general health, and wellbeing.
* an exceptional standard of youth friendly care to headspace young people.
* physical health interventions when required relating to vaccination, acute physical illness, chronic physical illness injury other physical health issues within scope of practice.
* sexual health interventions to either optimise a young person’s sexual health or prevent the incidence of (or reduce the severity of sexual and reproductive health problems, within scope of practice.
* work within the multidisciplinary team to support the physical & mental health needs of young people and their families and friends.
* perform youth health assessments and screening, escalate concerns to internal and external services and parents, caregivers, or guardians as appropriate.
Requirements of the role:
* Current Registration as Registered Nurse (Division 2) with AHPRA with tertiary qualifications in Nursing (RN Yr 2 +).
* Registered Nurse with current AHPRA (Australian Health Practitioner Regulation Agency) registration.
* Certificate of sexual Health /or sexual health training essential.
* Experience working with young people plus demonstrated knowledge of and sensitivity to the mental health needs of young people (12 – 25 years) and their families and friends.
* Minimum 2 years post graduate nursing experience working in a mental health area.
