Overview
The Ritz-Carlton, Melbourne is seeking a passionate Director of Sales & Marketing to join our guidance team on a full-time basis. This pivotal role leads the Sales, Events, Reservations, and Marketing functions, driving the hotel's commercial success and positioning our property as the luxury destination in Melbourne. With full accountability for topline revenue performance, the Director will inspire a high-performing team, cultivate long-term client relationships, and implement innovative strategies that reflect the brand's legendary service and commitment to excellence.

Job Summary
Functions as the leader of the property's sales, events, and marketing department and is responsible for the hotel's topline revenue. Manages the property's sales efforts (reactive and proactive), event planning, reservations, public relations, marketing communications, and overall strategic direction. Provides day-to-day leadership to associates to achieve property sales objectives and overall revenue goals. Implements the brand's service strategy and initiatives in all aspects of the sales and events process and focuses on building long-term, value-based customer relationships to meet sales objectives. Evaluates sales channels and develops relationships to position and market the property effectively. Manages the marketing budget to develop property-specific campaigns, promotions, and collateral to drive revenue and meet objectives. Interfaces with regional marketing for promotions pull-through and develops property-wide strategies that deliver products and services aligned with the brand and owner expectations.
Candidate Profile / Qualifications
Demonstrated leadership experience in sales, marketing, events, and reservations in a luxury hotel environment.
Strong financial and commercial acumen, with proven success in driving revenue and market share.
Exceptional interpersonal, negotiation, and presentation skills.
Track record of building high-performing teams and fostering customer relationships.
Tertiary education in Hospitality, Business, Marketing, or related field.
Hotel sales experience with progressive career growth.
Prior experience in a Director-level sales or marketing leadership role within the luxury hotel industry.
Develops strategic account plans for demand generators in the market.
Manages both reactive and proactive sales efforts; determines and develops marketing communications in conjunction with Regional Marketing Communications.
Provides customer intelligence to evaluate market and economic trends for sales strategy adjustments.
Reviews market position reports and competitive intelligence to inform strategy.
Attends sales strategy meetings and contributes to weekly and overall sales strategy.
Suggests innovative marketing ideas and deployment strategies to grow market share.
Evaluates participation with Area Sales and Group Sales within the Sales Office.
Serves as primary sales contact for the General Manager, leadership team, and sales leaders; acts as customer advocate.
Represents hotel sales processes and contracts; liaises with other departments as appropriate.
Participates in sales calls to acquire new business and close opportunities.
Identifies PR opportunities and coordinates activities to enhance marketing communications.
Supports crisis communications in coordination with leadership.
Executes Marriott's Customer Service Standards and Brand Standards.
Ensures seamless turnover from sales to operations and back to sales while maintaining high service levels.
Monitors guest issue resolution related to the sales process and escalates to leadership as needed.
Responsibilities – Strategy & Marketing
Develops an annual Marketing Communications plan with goals and budgets, focusing on digital and traditional media in response to market dynamics.
Coordinates strategic planning and implementation of marketing communications activities.
Reviews and measures marketing effectiveness and optimizes plans accordingly.
Oversees design agency operations to ensure brand voice consistency.
Monitors competitor activity and industry trends, sharing learnings with the property executive team.
Determines budgets for communications initiatives and ensures regional branding alignment.
Ensures photography and creative assets are up-to-date and aligned with regional approvals.
Digital Marketing & Social Media
Partners with regional eCommerce and digital teams to strategize digital marketing plans; aligns with sales and revenue goals.
Collaborates with eCommerce leadership to explore digital and social opportunities on owned and third-party channels.
Leads property marketing and ecommerce teams, agencies, and media partners to create campaigns and media plans.
Directs on-property marketing teams and social media agencies on content calendars and campaigns.
Coordinates with cluster eCommerce and digital teams for social media monitoring, reporting, and crisis management.
Public Relations
Implements PR strategies to drive quality press coverage in line with communications objectives.
Develops PR-worthy stories to enhance F&B; reputation and hotel image; acts as spokesperson and manages media responses.
Maintains media contacts and relationships, coordinating with regional PR teams for approvals on key projects.
Participates in regional PR events and media trips as required.
Other Leadership Responsibilities
Ensures hotel information is updated across digital channels and maintains collateral development oversight with Marketing Communications and design agencies.
Develops talent, coaches, and provides feedback; plans staffing to meet business needs and supports training for marketing teams.
