About The Role

The Community Recovery and Resilience Officer (CRRO) initiative is part of the Community Health and Wellbeing package (the Package) which has been included within the Category C exceptional circumstances funding.

It will support long-term recovery and resilience of disaster affected communities following the North and Far North Queensland Tropical Low, 29 January – 28 February 2025.

We are seeking a committed professional for a fixed term opportunity to support Townsville's recovery and resilience efforts.

In this role, you will lead the development of clear, evidence-based assessments to understand community vulnerabilities and recovery needs. You will work with the community to develop recovery and resilience plans, deliver engagement activities, and ensure diverse voices are heard.

Collaborating across Council, you will help target programs and resources to support social, environmental, infrastructure and economic recovery. You will also support individuals, community groups, businesses and service providers to build skills and capacity, promote available funding opportunities, and share recovery and resilience ideas from across Queensland and beyond.

About You

Our ideal candidate will have:

* Tertiary Qualifications (or equivalent experience) in Disaster Management, Human Services (or other Social Sciences), Community Development or Community Engagement.
* Experience working in any disaster management, recovery and resilience functions, community development or community engagement roles.
* Demonstrated leadership and experience in the development, delivery, monitoring and evaluation.
* Extensive knowledge of and demonstrated leadership in delivering community-led recovery and resilience projects and resulting action plans that utilise place-based approaches to engage across sectors, business and communities to enhance resilience.
* Significant experience in the application of legislation, policy and strategic documents to enhance Council's recovery and resilience planning using capacity building measures that support and enable capability and skills development of individuals and groups, businesses and service providers.
* Demonstrated ability to plan and deliver widespread community engagement activities to discuss the recovery process and to identify the needs and aspirations of diverse groups, including working under pressure during intense community engagement activities that includes engaging community members who have been exposed to trauma and direct impacts of disaster.
* Well-developed relationship management skills and demonstrated experience in collaboration and negotiation to provide excellent community and stakeholder engagement.
