The EnergyCo Finance and Operations team is hiring
About the Opportunity
This is an exciting opportunity for a seasoned finance professional to play a pivotal role in supporting EnergyCo's mission to deliver the NSW Government's ambitious electricity infrastructure agenda. As Senior Financial Accountant, you will operate as a trusted advisor to stakeholders and the Chief Financial Officer, contributing high-quality financial management, analysis and reporting within a collaborative Finance team. You will help ensure the organisation's operational and commercial outcomes are achieved in a compliant, ethical and strategically sound manner, while upholding NSW public sector values and influencing decisions that shape the future of the state's energy system.
About You
Ideally, you bring deep knowledge of NSW Government Sector finance legislation, directions and policies, alongside a strong command of Australian Accounting Standards. With a proven track record delivering high-quality financial reports, budgets and project performance insights, you are confident operating in environments with constrained funding envelopes and complex cashflow requirements. Your ability to translate financial data into clear, actionable advice ensures stakeholders are always equipped to make informed decisions.
Highly skilled in the technical delivery of financial accounting, you excel in preparing monthly journals, internal and external reporting packs, managing stakeholder queries, reviewing reconciliations and overseeing general ledger integrity. You are experienced with the Prime system and understand the NSW Treasury reporting and budgeting processes. With a can‑do attitude, you thrive during year‑end, coordinating early close and audit processes, preparing statutory financial statements, liaising with external auditors and implementing recommendations with diligence. Your strengths include developing accounting policies, managing compliance with professional and statutory standards, enhancing financial systems and controls and fostering strong, collaborative relationships. These skills will ensure you are able to contribute meaningfully to a positive, high‑performing team culture.
Degree qualification in Commerce or Business, and membership of CPA Australia or the Institute of Chartered Accountants Australia/New Zealand.
