Key Responsibilities:

* Design and analyze mechanical/structural systems to ensure compliance with regulatory standards.
* Evaluate Aircraft Role Equipment and ALSE to identify potential design issues.
* Develop and derive requirements, verification and documentation to support regulatory and company certification processes.
* Perform structural analysis (FEA, etc) to demonstrate margins, loads and compliance with applicable standards.
* Develop and execute verification and validation plans, test plans, test articles, data collection and report generation.
* Support certification efforts by preparing compliance matrices, certification packages and interacting with certification authorities.
* Define design to manufacturing interfaces and provide producibility and assembly guidance.
* Coordinate with systems, manufacturing, test and certification teams to ensure compliant, producible and safe designs.
* Support System Safety by contributing to Risk Assessments, Risk Reviews and participating in System Safety Working Groups.
* Support failure/defect and occurrence reporting investigations, root-cause analysis, corrective actions and design updates.
* Provide technical input to Configuration Management and support development, incorporation and service release activities.
* Liaise with Defence stakeholders to coordinate delivery of design and certification services.

Requirements:

* Tertiary-qualified Mechanical / Structural / Aerospace Engineer that satisfies Engineers Australia membership requirements (MIEAust).
* Demonstrated experience in aircraft modification design and/or certification activities.
* Experience in regulated aviation environments (CASA, DASA, FAA etc.) is highly desirable.
* Excellent written and verbal communication; able to interface with certification authorities, suppliers, and multidisciplinary teams.
* Strong attention to detail, systems thinking, and disciplined documentation practices.
* Ability to prioritize tasks in a schedule-driven environment.
* Collaborative mindset with ability to work in cross-functional teams.
* Proactive problem-solver, resilient under certification and program pressures.

Benefits:

This role offers a unique opportunity to work on a mission that matters: supporting the EC-135 fleet that trains the next generation of Navy and Army pilots. You will get stuck into meaningful, safety-critical engineering every day — from structural repairs and modifications to weight & balance and integrity programs.

This role is based onsite in Nowra with flexible work options available. Depending on your level of experience, you may also have the opportunity to mentor junior engineers and coordinate cross-disciplinary design reviews.
