A unique part time opportunity to join Serco and our partner Melbourne Parks and Gardens as a Conservatory Attendant. The role requires a strong horticultural knowledge and the ability to work independently and with members of the public.
The required hours for this position is 9:00am - 5:30pm Saturday and Sunday with the flexibility to work until late for special events and celebrations.
**About You**
You will have sound problem solving skills with the ability to achieve effective and efficient solutions to challenges and changes and have effective time and workload skills and the ability to prioritise tasks. You will have experience in a previous role and enjoy working individually and sharing your knowledge with members of the public.
**About the role**
Reporting to the Horticulture Manager, you will be responsible for maintaining the conservatory in a condition which meets or exceeds the contractual expectations. This role is a hands-on, face to face position that requires presence, professionalism, knowledge and a strict adherence to City of Melbourne and Serco expectations in relation to the monitoring, maintenance and presentation of this key Tourist Assets.
**To be successful in this role you will have**:
- Horticultural qualification (minimum Cert IV or equivalent)
- Demonstrated experience in Horticulture in a similar environment;
- Strong knowledge of and experience with exotic and native flora, including annual and perennial species;
- Strong knowledge of pests and diseases of ornamental horticulture, and knowledge of appropriate pest and disease management techniques, with a focus on sustainability and Integrated Pest Management techniques;
- Experience with design and installation of complex and eye-catching plant and floral displays;
- Strong verbal and written communication skills
- Highly professional personal presentation at all times
- Extremely high level of customer service and negotiation skills, including liaison with a large and diverse range of visitors to the site on a daily basis;
- Ability to work individually
