Senior Writer/Editor, Technical Publications
The Senior Writer/Editor will produce quality guides and publications in plain English to assist the aviation community in understanding and complying with aviation regulations.
The role is based within the Communications Branch of the Stakeholder Engagement Division, which is responsible for CASA's public and industry communication activities, media engagement, website and intranet management, social media channels, safety promotion activities, graphic design, video production, sponsorships, event management and the development of plain English guides.
Responsibilities
Under limited direction, scope, develop and maintain plain English guides that explain complex aviation rules in a simple, easy-to-read writing style and deliver quality work that requires little revision before finalisation.
Edit, peer-review and quality-check content produced by other team members to ensure a high-quality end product, retaining the intent of the regulations and aligning with the current Australian Government Style Manual and accessibility requirements.
Plan own work goals and priorities that align with both individual and team outcomes, collaborate with team members to meet agreed timelines, and assist in project planning and management.
Maintain and apply knowledge of the Civil Aviation Act ****, Civil Aviation Safety Regulations ****, Civil Aviation Regulations **** and related standards, policy and practice, CASA decision-making processes and agency guidelines.
Build and maintain effective relationships internally within the Communications branch and with other business units (e.g., National Operations Standards Division, Legal, International and Regulatory Affairs Division) and externally with contractors and suppliers.
Maintain and promote guidance material including safety information, education and training materials, advisory circulars, web-based information and other duties as required.
Promote workplace safety, equity and diversity, participative management and environmental management in accordance with CASA values and behaviours.
Work supportively and cooperatively with Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander peoples to achieve shared outcomes.
Ideal Candidate
Familiarity with the regulatory aspects of the aviation industry, preferably with an aviation licence and strong knowledge of at least one sector (e.g., flying operations or airworthiness).
Ability to interpret a range of document types to bring technical information together in meaningful content for the specified user.
Skill in developing and structuring large documents while considering technical content and reader knowledge.
Excellent command of written English, familiarity with writing to a style guide, intermediate word skills and meticulous attention to detail.
Proven ability to work with minimal assistance, take ownership of tasks and guide/support others in the team as required.
Strong people skills to develop new relationships between the section and other areas of CASA.
Excellent organisational skills and the ability to contribute to continuous improvement of the product and processes within the section.
Ability to demonstrate initiative and judgement in providing accurate technical knowledge and advice in a specialist discipline relevant to the role, supported by exposure to CASA's policies and procedures.
Ability to engage with Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander employees in a sensitive, respectful and equitable manner.
Commitment to promoting workplace safety, equity and diversity and acting in accordance with CASA values and behaviours.

The Stakeholder Engagement Division helps create and shape the environment in which CASA works to improve aviation safety by building trust and awareness with stakeholders and by delivering credible, consistent communication, safety education and client services.
Eligibility Requirements
