We are currently seeking someone with a tertiary background in metallurgy, process or chemical engineering or similar to join the Technical Services Metallurgy team as a
Specialist Metallurgist
to support Iron Bridge. You will be joining a passionate, driven and agile technical team who look after long term metallurgical characterisation of orebody.
Reporting to the Lead Specialist Metallurgist, the role will require you to coordinate, promote and integrate geometallurgy across interdisciplinary teams to maximise value while minimising technical and operational risk. The successful applicant will integrate geological context into metallurgical performance to understand how material behavesthrough the processing plant and provide metallurgical product predictions to various mine planning horizons i.e. LOM/10YP/5YP/2YP.
You will have access to multiple techniques to understand the orebody ranging from corescale (hylogger, downhole logging, assays and FTIR) to the microscale (optical microscopy, SEM, uXRF) which you will use to link to material properties such as comminution (BBWi, SMC, HPGR, Stirred Milling), abrasivity, elutriation, upgrades and yields.
*Key Responsibilities*
* Interpret metallurgical testwork data from the PQ drilling to assess the impact on upgrades and yields during processing.
* Communicate the findings and analysis to the stakeholders
* Design, evaluate and optimise the testwork flowsheet for various metallurgical testwork programs to understand comminution, abrasion, liberation and other properties of the material.
* Assess the quality and consistency of the metallurgical test work.
* Interface with metallurgical and analytical labs to ensure that the test work is fit for purpose and delivered on time.
* Regular travel to sites to inspect ore body and aid the OPF by providing insights into expected processing behavior.
Qualifications And Experience
* Tertiary qualification in Metallurgy, Chemical Engineering, Chemistry, Data science or similar.
* Demonstrated commitment to safety
* Strong conceptual thinking and analytical focus with practical alignment to reality
* 5 – 10 years in mineral processing or similar industry
* Excellent problem-solving skills and continual improvement focus
* Proficiency in Microsoft suite of programs, Power BI, Snowflake
* Programming languages such as Python
* Understanding of geometallurgical systems of work and methodologies
* Prior experience with OPF operations
* Good project management ability including cross functional collaboration
* Excellent verbal and written communication skills including technical writing and process documentation
* Excellent attitude to HSEC including hazard reporting, investigations and field interactions
* A strong desire to innovate, problem solve, and approach work with new ideas
* Ability to work effectively unsupervised
