The Opportunity
Our data environment has grown organically alongside the business. It supports investment analytics, reporting, operations, risk management, and internal workflows.
We are seeking someone who can step in, assess how it is currently structured, and elevate it to a scalable, well-architected, and professionally governed platform.
Key Responsibilities
Conduct a comprehensive review of existing schemas, tables, and relationships.
Redesign structures where necessary to improve clarity, performance, and scalability.
Implement consistent naming conventions and modelling standards.
Optimise indexing strategies and query performance.
Reduce technical debt and improve maintainability.
Refactor Python ETL pipelines and application logic to align with updated database structures.
AWS & Infrastructure
Review current AWS RDS configuration and performance setup.
Recommend and implement improvements in:
Instance sizing
Backup and recovery policies
Monitoring and alerting
Security configuration and access controls
Advise on scalability planning as the business grows.
Governance & Best Practice
Introduce documentation and architectural clarity.
Implement structured deployment processes.
Ensure the platform is built to a professional institutional standard.
Required Experience
5+ years experience as a Database Engineer or Senior SQL Developer.
Experience working with AWS RDS or cloud-hosted databases.
Ability to operate independently and make sound architectural decisions.
