The Perkins is seeking a customer focused and technically capable Desktop Support Technician to join our Technology team and help ensure the smooth operation of critical IT services that support world-leading medical research. This position is offered on a full time permanent basis, located at our state-of the-art medical research facilities in Nedlands.
About this role
Reporting to the General Manager, Technology, the Desktop Support Technician supports the day to day operation of ICT services across the Institute, providing desktop and operational support to staff across the Perkins buildings. The role works closely with the ICT team and external partners to maintain end-user systems, networking infrastructure and operational technologies including telephony, CCTV and access control.
The key responsibilities of this role include:
* Providing first and second level technical support across hardware, software and networking systems
* Logging, monitoring and resolving user support requests through the IT ticketing system
* Installing and configuring desktop computers, laptops, printers and other peripherals
* Supporting and maintaining telephony systems, including handset configuration and troubleshooting
* Maintaining the IT asset register and assisting with equipment audits
* Creating and managing user accounts and access permissions
* Supporting networking infrastructure including server room equipment installation and port patching
* Coordinating small operational ICT projects under the guidance of the Infrastructure Lead
This role would suit someone who enjoys hands‐on IT support, problem solving and delivering excellent customer service in a fast paced environment. You will enjoy working with a diverse range of users including researchers, operational teams and external partners.
To be successful in this role, you'll have:
* A qualification in Information Technology, Computer Science or a related field, or equivalent practical experience
* Strong knowledge of computer hardware, operating systems, networking and IT security principles
* Experience providing desktop or service desk support in a professional environment
* xcellent customer service skills and the ability to communicate technical information clearly to non-technical users
* Strong problem‐solving and troubleshooting capabilities
* The ability to prioritise tasks, work independently and meet deadlines
* Strong organisational and record‐keeping skills
* A current WA C-Class Driver's Licence and ability to obtain a National Police Certificate
