Your Employer Our client, a large citrus producer located in Paringa, South Australia, is seeking a skilled Irrigation Technician to join their farm operations team. This is a full-time position responsible for supporting and maintaining irrigation and fertigation systems across the property, ensuring the effective delivery of water and nutrients to citrus crops throughout the production cycle. Your Role As an Irrigation Technician, you will assist in the planning, operation, and monitoring of irrigation systems to ensure efficient water delivery to our citrus crops, including troubleshooting and maintenance of drip and overhead sprinkler infrastructure. You will also contribute to fertigation processes, record keeping, and irrigation system upgrades to support the farm’s productivity and sustainability targets. Key Responsibilities Liaise with the Irrigation Supervisor to schedule daily irrigation programs based on soil moisture data and crop needs. Maintain, test, and troubleshoot irrigation components, including pumps, filters, driplines, and overhead sprinklers. Conduct preventative maintenance to ensure efficient water flow, including pressure checks, line flushing, and cleaning filters. Assist with fertigation operations, including the safe mixing and application of fertilisers via irrigation systems. Record and report on water and fertiliser usage, output levels, and irrigation run times. Support the installation and calibration of soil moisture sensors and irrigation monitoring equipment. Participate in broader farm duties as required, supporting the production team during seasonal peaks. Follow all work health and safety procedures and contribute to safe and efficient irrigation practices. Skills & Experience Qualifications: Certificate III or IV in Horticulture or Irrigation (or equivalent practical experience). Previous experience with large-scale irrigation systems in an agricultural setting is highly regarded. Understanding of soil structure, crop water requirements, and fertigation principles. Ability to read and interpret system flow data and use basic irrigation software or tools. Strong problem-solving and mechanical aptitude for maintaining irrigation infrastructure. Current Driver’s Licence is essential; truck or machinery licence is desirable. Adaptability to work outdoors and availability for weekend or after-hours shifts during seasonal demands.
