Aboriginal Education Support Coordinator
This is a permanent full-time position commencing Term 1, ****
At Geraldton Senior High School every student will succeed and feel proud of their culture in a safe, inclusive, and creative environment. We will build inspiring learning spaces and green areas that support wellbeing, creativity, and respect for the environment. Using new technology and hands-on learning, students will explore ideas and find their individual path to success. We will celebrate First Nations Peoples and all cultures working closely with families and the community to create a welcoming and supportive place. Together, we will prepare students to learn now for their future, empowering them to step forward ready to lead, create, and make a positive difference in the world.
The Role
Provide leadership, guidance and a First Nations perspective to the school Leadership and Executive teams.
Support cultural learning across the school and help staff build strong, respectful relationships with First Nations students and families.
Support the schoolwide implementation of culturally responsive practices and help progress the Department of Education's Aboriginal Cultural Standards Framework.
Work closely with the Cultural Reference Group, the Aboriginal Education Team, and be an active member of the school leadership team.
Focus on improving First Nations student attendance, engagement and academic achievement.
Support the Two-Way Learning Team; skills or interest in Science, the Arts or local Aboriginal language are highly regarded.

Eligibility
Be an Australian or New Zealand citizen, permanent resident or have a valid visa with relevant work rights for the term of the appointment.
Obtain a valid Working With Children Check before you start.
Consent to a Nationally Coordinated Criminal History Check and obtain a current Screening Clearance Number issued by the Department of Education's Screening Unit before you start.

Attach your documents: a CV of up to two pages and a four-page statement addressing the selection criteria.
Your application should include:
Demonstrated knowledge of local issues and needs of Aboriginal children, families and communities and experience applying that knowledge to the education sector.
Well-developed organisational, planning and program management skills, including the ability to prioritise tasks to meet deadlines.
Well-developed conceptual and analytical skills and ability to identify and clarify trends and issues and provide innovative solutions to address them.
Well-developed facilitation, negotiation and consultation skills with a proven ability to work collaboratively and maintain effective working relationships within, and external to the Department, including Aboriginal families and communities.
Well-developed written communication skills, including experience in preparing reports and general correspondence.
