Role Description
The Senior Fire Safety Engineer is a full-time, on-site role based in Melbourne, VIC. This position is responsible for leading the development of fire engineering strategies, performance-based designs, and safety solutions for a variety of building and infrastructure projects.
Daily tasks include conducting fire and life safety assessments, performing engineering calculations and modelling, preparing technical reports, and reviewing drawings and specifications for compliance with codes and standards.
The role collaborates with architects, structural and services engineers, project managers, and regulators to resolve fire safety issues and provide clear, practical recommendations.
The Senior Fire Safety Engineer also mentors junior team members, contributes to project planning and resource management, and supports business development activities through technical input and client engagement.
Qualifications
* Strong background in fire safety engineering, including performance-based design, fire and life safety assessments, and application of relevant building codes and standards.
* Proficiency in fire engineering analysis tools and methods (e.g., fire and egress modelling, smoke control analysis, heat transfer and structural fire engineering principles).
* Demonstrated ability to prepare clear, concise technical reports, review design documentation, and translate complex engineering concepts into practical design guidance.
* Experience leading projects, coordinating with multidisciplinary design teams, and engaging with regulatory authorities and approval bodies.
* Bachelor's and Master's degree in Fire Safety Engineering, Mechanical Engineering, Civil/Structural Engineering, or a closely related discipline; postgraduate qualifications in fire engineering are highly regarded.
* Professional registration or eligibility for registration (e.g., Chartered status or equivalent) in a relevant engineering institution is desirable.
* Excellent communication, stakeholder management, and negotiation skills, with the ability to represent the company in client and authority meetings.
* Proven capability to mentor and support junior engineers, foster knowledge sharing, and contribute to continuous improvement of tools, templates, and processes.
* Familiarity with Australian building regulations and standards, particularly those applicable in Victoria; experience on Melbourne-based or Australian projects is advantageous.
* Ability to work on-site full time, manage multiple priorities, and deliver high-quality work within agreed timeframes.
