The Team: Part of the Tasmanian Health Service, the Statewide Sexual Health Service works collaboratively to deliver quality sexual health care to the Tasmanian population statewide with clinics in Hobart (Clinic 60), Launceston (Clinic 34) and Devonport outreach (Clinic 23). The Role: Sexual Health Service Tasmania is a state-wide service with clinics in Hobart, Launceston, and an outreach clinic in Devonport. The service is staffed by doctors, nurses, psychologists and administrative officers. The Sexual Health Service provides people with the opportunity to enhance their sexual health and wellbeing. This position is based at Clinic 34, Launceston and Clinic 23, Devonport outreach. Our clinical services primarily involve the assessment, diagnosis, treatment and management of sexually transmissible infections, sexual functioning, conditions impacting upon sexuality and gender diversity, care and management of HIV and treatment and cure of Hepatitis C. We provide a multidisciplinary transgender service including information, support and medical assistance and guidance. Our target populations are individuals and populations at risk of and/or of public heath importance, to STI/HIV transmission. These include: • Individuals with symptoms suggestive of a sexually transmissible infection • Men who have sex with men • HIV-positive individuals • people who inject drugs • Aboriginals & Torres Strait Islanders • Sex workers Applicants with Phlebotomy, sexual health and/or family planning experience and holding a Tasmanian Nurse Immuniser qualification would be highly regarded but is not essential. The position duties include: Working in an interdisciplinary setting providing appropriate assessments and screening as clinically indicated in the area of sexual health and other related conditions. Working towards an advanced level of clinical nursing expertise in the area of Sexual Health and other related conditions. Provide sexual health education to clients in accordance with best practice. Participate in nursing quality improvement and clinical research activities in the area of Sexual Health and related conditions that will contribute to evidence-based research in nursing practices. Maintain professional development through reflective practice, participation in continuous learning activities including networking and engaging with local and national colleagues and by participating in an annual performance development program. In collaboration with members of the healthcare team plan, implement and evaluate patient/client care. Practice in accordance with the NMBA1 codes and guidelines for registered nurses/midwives. Involve patients/clients and their families/significant others in the planning and implementation of care. You will need: Minimum four years Registered Nursing experience and current knowledge of, and the ability to apply nursing principles, procedures and practices in the delivery of patient/client care within sexual health, including sexually transmissible infections, sexuality and HIV and willingness to work towards a relevant tertiary qualification in Sexual Health Nursing, in a designated practice area and in line with legal requirements and the Australian Nursing and Midwifery Council (ANMC) National Competency Standards for the Registered Nurse. Sound interpersonal and communication skills, including written skills and the ability to function effectively in a multidisciplinary team environment. Proven experience in phlebotomy and experience undertaking quality improvement (safety and quality) and the application of evidence-based practice within the sexual health service, including research activities.
