Our client is one of the leaders in delivering complex ground engineering and foundation projects across Australia.
We are looking for an experienced WHS Manager with 7-10 years' experience within WHS circles, and preferably working in construction at a site level sometime prior. Prior experience in ground engineering / piling is also highly regarded.
We are seeking someone who is energetic, passionate across the WHS / HSE construction field. Ideally someone who loves travelling, is happy to travel interstate for audits, and proficient across administrative processes.
**In this role, you will**:
- Support the effective implementation of safety management systems, strategies and initiatives across the company.
- Provide operational safety guidance, diligence, consistency and discipline to operational leaders
- Provide strategic and operational advice to directors and managers to ensure adequate training and development is achieved in safety critical roles.
- Actively support staff through mentoring, facilitation and coaching in relation to safety issues.
- Identify and initiate safety improvement initiatives and influence safety culture throughout the company.
**Skills / Qualifications**
- Degree Qualified in Occupational Health and Safety or equivalent (or working towards this and currently hold an Diploma / Advanced Diploma in OH&S). Equivalent engineering or science, building construction management, health or other Degrees will also be considered
- Cert 4 in OH&S / WHS or equivalent (highly regarded)
- Cert IV in Training and Assessing (TAE) (desirable)
- Safety Lead Auditor Qualifications (preferred not essential)
- Lead ICAM Investigator Qualification (preferred not essential)
- Safety Practitioner experienced in construction and/or heavy industry, including high risk workplaces, engineering or other associated functional areas.
- Exposure to Audit Management practices
- Exceptional skills in business level planning, development and review of safety management systems
- Quantitative and qualitative risk assessment skills, such as development and monitoring of risk controls and actions involved in the delivery and implementation of projects
- Ability to transfer risk controls and assessment strategies across projects within the region
- Must have experience in the return-to-work process
- Valid Australian Drivers licence

- Computer literate across WHS-related software
**Role & Responsibilities**
- Visit job sites to conduct safety audits on personnel, equipment and materials
- Evaluate, assess and alter safety procedures and policies for the benefit of employees and clients
- Manage the Safety / ISO audit and accreditation process
- Research and implement new materials handling processes
- Analyze accident reports and evaluate injury case studies based on available facts
- Prepare and conduct safety training sessions for employees and vendors
- Ensure compliance with all regulatory bodies and standards.
- Research environmental regulations and policies and institute changes to ensure compliance
- Lead injury and incident inquiries and evaluations
- Development and ongoing support of the safety management system.
- Work closely with the Operations, Sales and Admin teams for internal incident reporting, investigations, monitoring and closing out all the incidents and injury corrective actions.
- Maintain the incident register and follow up corrective actions.
- Ensure relevant policies, procedures are followed.
- Lead / Support the risk management practices including risk assessments, workplace inspections, implementation of WH&S procedures.
- Contribute to onsite induction & training including coaching employees as required in WHS.
- Conduct onsite inspections, toolbox talks, yard inspections / office inspections
- Encourage participation from crews to complete site inspections / hazard reports
- Incident investigations / report writing / safety alerts
- Communicate issues on site with relevant PM (for issues that cannot be fixed there and there on site / or issues that require input from PM), follow up and close out
- Travel interstate as required
- Maintain registers (action register, test & tag register, fire equipment register, non-conformance register)
- Attend fortnightly yard meeting, fortnightly safety management meeting, weekly safety team meeting
- Research into new products that could benefit the company and improve safety of workforce
- Update SWMS as requested / responding to clients regarding SWMS / communicate with PM for job specific risk that apply
- Amend SMP/EMP as required (mostly for jobs where we are the PC)
- Basic RTW notification process (as required / relief work)
- PRA consultation with Plant & Maintenance Manager (as required)
