Work with a leading commercial employer for the Canberra region and help steer them through their next period of change. This organisation is a highly regarded, complex utility operating across regulated infrastructure, retail and corporate environments. With a strong focus on safety, reliability and long‐term value, they offer leaders the opportunity to operate at a genuinely strategic level while remaining close to operational delivery.
The organisation is entering a period of transition and is seeking an experienced regulatory pricing leader to provide stability, leadership and strong delivery across an established function.
Opportunity
This is a critical leadership role at the centre of regulatory pricing for the electricity network distribution business, responsible for setting tariffs, shaping pricing strategy and translating complex quantitative outputs into clear commercial and regulatory outcomes.
This position sits within a high‐performing and collaborative team and reports to the General Manager. It combines leadership, technical oversight and hands‐on delivery, with three direct reports across economic regulation.
The role is 90 per cent focused on regulatory pricing for the distribution business, with a small exposure to retail pricing. It plays a central role across regulatory cycles, including annual submissions and longer‐term five‐year reviews for both the gas and electricity networks.
You will oversee regulatory pricing models and ensure that strategic intent is accurately reflected in the numbers, while also translating complex modelling into clear, effective communication for executive, board and regulatory audiences.
Role
Key responsibilities and outcomes include:
* Provide expert regulatory pricing, financial and strategic advice to senior executives and the Boards
* Lead the development, review and application of regulatory pricing models, ensuring alignment with strategic objectives
* Oversee annual pricing resets and support longer‐term regulatory reviews across electricity and gas networks
* Shape tariff structures and pricing strategies, including incentive schemes, connection policies and regulatory frameworks
* Act as a key interface with regulators, as well as shareholders and broader stakeholders
* Lead regulatory submissions, advocacy and stakeholder engagement across the pricing lifecycle
* Provide leadership, coaching and oversight to a small, high‐calibre team while remaining hands‐on in delivery
* Translate complex quantitative analysis into clear, concise and commercially relevant insights
Ideal Person
You will likely bring experience from a network utility, regulator or advisory environment, such as energy, water or telecommunications. Candidates from consulting firms or regulatory bodies are also encouraged to apply. This role may suit someone who is ready to step up into a broader leadership position.
You will demonstrate:
* Strong experience in regulatory pricing, modelling or economic regulation
* The ability to interpret regulatory frameworks and apply them to pricing and revenue outcomes
* A highly developed commercial mindset, with the ability to link data, strategy and business performance
* Excellent communication and presentation skills, with experience engaging at executive and board level
* A collaborative leadership style and the ability to operate effectively in a small, high‐impact team
* Strong stakeholder engagement capability, both internally and externally
Salary / Rate
* Total remuneration package of $250k - $280k, with flexibility based on experience
* Flexible working arrangements, including a mix of office and work from home
* Four‐day or five‐day working week
* Free on‐site parking
* A supportive and flexible culture, including accommodation for family commitments
This is an excellent time to join, ahead of the next major regulatory cycles, and to play a key role in shaping pricing strategy and outcomes for a critical Canberra business.
