About us

The Audit Office of South Australia is the independent auditor of the South Australian public sector. The Office reports directly to the South Australian Parliament on the audits of the finances, systems and processes of both state and local government agencies.

Our audits identify whether services and activities are effective, efficient and properly accounted for. We also provide recommendations to public sector agencies on future improvements they could make to deliver better outcomes to the South Australian community.

About the role

The Senior Auditor works in a small team within the Financial Audit Branch. The branch is responsible for planning, conducting and reporting on independent audits.

As Senior Auditor, your duties will include:

- Undertaking and reporting on financial compliance audits and reviews of internal controls in the public sector
- Providing on the job training and support for less experienced audit staff
- Utilising professional skills and knowledge to assist with audit planning processes
- Assisting with the conduct of extended reviews of issues of importance and interest in the public sector, to promote the best use of public sector resources.

During the audit report period, you will be working additional hours, and compensation is provided.

About you

To be successful in this role, you need to:

- Understand and be able to apply accounting and auditing standards and practices
- Have the ability to interpret legislation
- Understand and be able to apply government accountability frameworks
- Have sound verbal and written communication skills, including the ability to communicate accounting and audit concepts to non-accounting staff
- Have demonstrated ability to work effectively in a small team environment
- Have strong client liaison skills.

Salary and benefits

$76,561 pa - $80,256 pa (ASO4 classification level) plus 12% superannuation

Essential requirements

- Completed a Bachelor level degree in accounting or commerce (majoring in accounting), recognised in Australia under the Australian Qualifications Framework (AQF).
- The completed degree must meet the requirements for entry into the professional accounting program offered by CPA Australia or Chartered Accountants Australia and New Zealand (through their accredited tertiary degree entry pathways).

- Completion of essential requirements

- Being an Australian citizen, permanent resident or VISA holder, at the time of applying.

- Shortlisted candidate/s will be required to complete a pre-employment declaration form.
- Successful candidate/s will be required to complete a national criminal history check.
