Primary objective
Assist with the development and implementation of strategic initiatives that drive sector thought leadership and influence
stakeholders enabling sustainable growth of NT visitor economy.
The Strategy and Insights team facilitates the strategic and sustainable growth of the Territory’s visitor economy and tourism
industry. It is responsible for strategic planning and policy development for the tourism sector in the Territory including the
NT Visitor Economy Strategy 2032 implementation, strategic research and offerings development. This role directly supports
delivery of the Strategy, supporting the leadership team reporting to Senior Manager, Strategy and Policy.
Key duties and responsibilities
1. Develop position papers and policy responses regarding Visitor Economy Strategy 2032 issues using an evidence-based
approach drawn from a range of research streams and market intelligence.
2. Develop and maintain positive relationships and collaborative partnerships with key internal and external stakeholders
and organisations in relation to division strategy and planning activities.
3. Work across the division to foster an evidence-based approach to division unit planning and activities.
4. Participate on interagency and cross sectoral working groups comprising government, peak body and private sector
organisations to maximise achievement of the NT Government’s direction and priorities as they relate to tourism value
and visitor economy.

Desirable
1. Demonstrated understanding of the tourism industry and impacting trends at a local, national and international level
including how these relate to the Department and broader Territory Government directions.
2. Highly developed strategic, conceptual and analytical skills including the ability to facilitate and manage projects,
problem-solve and interrogate complex analytical data to elicit conclusions and recommend appropriate courses of
action.
3. Well-developed interpersonal and communication skills with the capability to relate effectively to, consult with and
influence a wide range of government and non-government stakeholders, including the ability to interact effectively with
people of diverse cultures.
4. Demonstrated experience in producing high level written briefs and reports that accurately and clearly communicate
complex issues in a succinct and understandable way to a wide range of stakeholders.
5. Appreciation of the processes of government and the need for political sensitivity and confidentiality.
6. Self-motivation, initiative, commercial acumen and proven capacity to deliver results.
Essential
1. Qualification or Certificate in a relevant discipline, including tourism/ business/ science or similar.
2. Demonstrated experience in tourism related project management.
