Position Information:
St Ives High School is a comprehensive coeducational high school with a current enrolment in excess of 1730 students. 32% of students are from non-English speaking backgrounds and the gender balance is approximately 57% boys and 43% girls. An Autism Unit is being established this year which will operate alongside a long established Hearing Support Unit. St Ives High School also is home to an Intensive English Centre, a long running high performance and gifted education program and a substantial learning and support program, all of which are valued by the community.
There have been significant advances in infrastructure in recent years resulting in improved teaching and learning facilities including a recent gym which is about to be extended, in a joint project with Ku-ring-gai Council. The school's curriculum structure is based on KLAs and the school runs a substantial student wellbeing program. There is a mix of early career and experienced teachers who have played a significant role in improved HSC results in recent years. The school has an active, supportive and highly engaged P&C; and the community has high expectations for student involvement and achievement.
Selection Criteria:
Approval to teach students with learning and support needs (secondary) and/or experience teaching students with learning and support needs (secondary) in regular classes. Capacity to provide specialist assistance to students in regular classes with additional learning and support needs and their teachers.
Demonstrated knowledge and capacity to plan, implement, track and review personalised learning and support plans for students with a range of needs that support improved outcomes.
Well-developed communication and interpersonal skills with the ability to work collaboratively with students, parents/carers, and external stakeholders to support students with additional needs.
Highly developed organisational, communication and interpersonal skills with the ability to work as a part of a comprehensive team to foster whole-school relationships.
Ability to implement and manage whole school programs, inclusive of skilled learning opportunities, to maximise learning outcomes for students with additional learning needs.
