This is a permanent full time position commencing Term 4, 2025, at Karratha Senior High School (SHS).
Karratha SHS is an independent public school for students from Years 7 to 12, serving a diverse population of approximately 1,270 students. The school offers programs in music, drama, art, sport and outdoor education, with modern facilities to support learning. The school emphasises high-quality teaching and trauma-informed practice with Positive Behaviour strategies.
The Role
Karratha SHS has an exciting prospect for a leader with demonstrated expertise in Aboriginal education as Program Coordinator of the Follow the Dream Program. The Follow the Dream program (Gumala Mirnuwarni Education Project) provides academic and mentoring support to Indigenous students. The Program Coordinator role involves leading and managing program delivery, student identification and participation, case management, monitoring progress and wellbeing, developing individual learning plans, providing subject advice and career guidance, arranging enrichment activities, managing the enrichment centre, selecting and supporting tutors, establishing and working with the local steering committee, and engaging parents, teachers and other stakeholders. Applicants should understand the program intent and Aboriginal education issues, including cultural perspectives.
Responsibilities
- Identify students for participation and manage the selection process
- Case manage each student and monitor school progress and wellbeing
- Develop individual learning plans and provide subject advice and career guidance
- Arrange extra-curricular enrichment activities and manage the enrichment centre
- Select and support tutors and engage with the local steering committee
- Engage parents, teachers, school staff and other key stakeholders
Qualifications and Eligibility
- Understanding of Aboriginal education, students and cultural perspectives
- Extensive knowledge and understanding of teaching and learning practices, especially relating to Aboriginal students
- Experience developing, implementing, and evaluating learning programs at school, regional or system level
- Ability to manage physical and financial resources
- Ability to provide strategic leadership, manage change and foster innovative educational solutions
- Strong written, verbal and interpersonal communication skills with ability to conduct research, prepare reports and build partnerships
- Be an Australian or New Zealand citizen, permanent resident or have a valid visa with work rights for the term of the appointment
- Hold registration with the Teacher Registration Board of Western Australia
- Obtain a valid Working With Children Check before you start
- Consent to a Nationally Coordinated Criminal History Check and obtain a current Screening Clearance Number
