Monash Children’s Hospital is one of Australia’s leading providers of integrated children’s health services, with more than 30 specialist services and programs. We have Victoria’s largest Neonatal Intensive Care Unit and provide leading paediatric services in many areas including Orthopaedics, Rehabilitation & Oncology. Occupational Therapy provides weekday services to inpatients, outpatients and post-acute care patients (and a weekend service for inpatients).
The Children’s Cancer Centre (CCC) at Monash Children’s Hospital cares for approximately 30% of Victoria’s childhood cancer patients. The CCC is also the primary treating team at Monash Health for children with haematological conditions. The CCC has an ambulatory care unit that is capable of providing complex cancer care across the disease continuum and admits children with haematological and oncological conditions to the paediatric inpatient units within Monash Children’s Hospital.
We are excited to announce that we seeking experienced and passionate Grade 2 Occupational Therapists for two roles with the team. We are seeking a Grade 2 for a Paediatric Oncology role as well as a Grade 2 for a general Paediatric role, both are full-time permanent roles, (part time may be considered, subject to the right candidate). These roles will be primarily based at our Monash Children’s Hospital in Clayton however work across our other sites may be required as part of your role. The Paediatric Oncology role has been funded by My Room to establish and embed a dedicated Occupational Therapy service for Monash Children’s Cancer Centre as well as supporting the general paediatric caseload. The general paediatric role will have an opportunity to develop specialised skills with various paediatric caseloads.
A Day in the Life
As the Grade 2 Occupational Therapist within the Monash Children’s Allied Health team based at Monash Children’s Hospital, you will collaborate with colleagues across the service to foster clinical excellence and consistency of practice. You will provide assessment and management You will supervise occupational therapy students, Grade 1 Occupational Therapists and/or Allied Health Assistants and participate in education and quality improvement activities.
As the Grade 2 Occupational Therapist, you will use your specialist knowledge and skills to conduct client assessment and intervention independently to infants, children and adolescents in both acute inpatient and outpatient settings, incorporating remedial, compensatory, educational and preventative strategies to achieve optimal evidence-based consumer care and to support consumer health and wellbeing through occupation and consideration of the person and their environment.

About You
We are looking for someone with established occupational therapy foundation skills and a genuine interest in paediatric health. A proactive and creative approach to problem solving is essential as you may not see the same thing twice in 6 months! You will have a collaborative approach to working with the team; experience working in the acute sector is desirable but not essential. Knowledge regarding ECEI and NDIS systems are an advantage. We are also wishing to see someone who has a dedication to best practice, quality improvement and are committed to delivering family-centred care.
What you need:
1. Bachelor of Occupational Therapist or Bachelor of Applied Science (Occupational Therapy) or equivalent
2. Current General Registration with the Australian Health Practitioner Regulation Agency (AHPRA) – Occupational Therapy, with no restrictions
3. Preferably at least 2 years paediatric clinical experience
4. Preferred experience in NDIS, managing young people with chronic conditions and/or hospital experience (desirable)
5. Current Victorian Driver’s License
