OO6 Estimator position available for a Government Department based in Cairns
Your new company
An exciting opportunity to join a State Government Department that provides essential construction and maintenance services across North Queensland. They are currently seeking an OO6 Estimator.
The experienced candidate will form part of a dedicated team until May 2026, with the possibility of extending, based in Cairns.
Your new role
You will be working within an established asset management team, contributing to the preparation of high-quality tender and quotation documentation for building maintenance and repair projects across various government assets in the Cairns region. The role involves producing accurate and timely estimates, quotations, and trade packages including material lists and construction programs while ensuring compliance with industry best practices and relevant legislative requirements. This is a full-time role, up to 40 hours per week, Monday to Friday.
What you'll need to succeed
You bring a solid foundation in construction trades and a strong understanding of estimating principles. While prior estimating experience is not essential, your familiarity with building standards, ability to interpret plans, and commitment to workplace health and safety will set you apart. You're proactive, detail-focused, and eager to build on your industry knowledge.
Essential Requirements:
* Trade Qualification
* Construction White Card (General Safety Induction)
* Current Driver's Licence
* Ability to read and interpret drawings and plans
* Strong computer literacy (CostX experience highly desirable)
* Sound understanding of Australian building standards and WHS practices
* Ability to plan and organise work schedules and labour requirements
* Commitment to producing compliant and high-quality documentation
* Strong interpersonal skills for working with clients, suppliers, and subcontractors
