Offer Description
* 3 x full-time, fixed-term researcher roles to drive new Data Science Hub at the Charles Perkins Centre, including 2 x Level B/C research leaders and 1 x Level A/B post-doc researcher, all located on the Camperdown campus of the University of Sydney.
* Establish and build analytical capacity associated with multi-omics, and statistical genetics at the Charles Perkins Centre.
* Base Salary, Level A/B/C $109,301 - $173,492 p.a + 17% superannuation
About the opportunity
We are currently seeking to appoint three research fellows to work in the Data Science Hub at the Charles Perkins Centre. The Data Science Hub is a new data science initiative funded by the Charles Perkins Centre, Faculty of Medicine and Health, and Faculty of Science, to increase the capacity in data-intensive research with direct translational impact in biomedical and metabolomics health and beyond. The Data Science Hub will enable context-specific data analysis on collaborative projects. The two Research Leaders and one research associate (post-doc) role will be at the forefront of establishing the Data Science Hub within the Charles Perkins Centre. These roles within a new initiative offer an exceptional opportunity to collaborate with a diverse community of experts, including computational scientists, experimental scientists, preclinical researchers, specialists in wearables data, epidemiologists, data linkage experts, and social scientists with access to extensive datasets in their respective fields.
The Charles Perkins Centre is a multidisciplinary centre and a world leader in its unique approach to bringing together and aligning the University of Sydney's many disciplines to find solutions to and advance our knowledge and understanding of obesity, diabetes and cardiovascular disease and related conditions, their causes and societal impacts. This creative approach aligns depths and strengths to find solutions to the growing pandemic of metabolic disease.
Your key responsibilities in addition to driving your own research program, will be to:
* contribute to increasing the computational capacity of the Data Science Hub. In particular, increase capacity with genomics and genetics, multi-omics platforms, large biobank repositories,and multi-modality integration.
* facilitate collaboration with the CPC community to develop novel statistical models and machine learning algorithms to better analyse large genomic data sets, such as the UK Biobank and other modern genomic data sets of similar scale.
* undertake teaching duties where required
* undertake administrative duties to manage the Data Science Hub.
About you

* experience as an academic track researcher or leading a research program
* track record of initiating and leading major collaborative projects
* strong background in the development of novel and applied statistical approaches to analyse large-scale datasets
* experience in implementing, and scaling these methods using robust programming tools and practices for the University and the wider community
* demonstratable track record of expertise in one of the following areas: genomics, multi-omics and mass spectrometry data and analysis; statistical genetics with large biobank data management and analysis.
