The Boroondara Volunteer Resource Centre is advertising this role on behalf of Kew Neighbourhood Learning Centre.
Kew Neighbourhood Learning Centre is launching a Music Therapy program designed to assist individuals with Acquired Brain Injuries (ABI), intellectual disability or mental illness in exploring developing skills through musical expression.
Responsibilities
Program Development
* Work closely with the volunteer/program coordinator to design and implement a comprehensive music therapy program tailored for individuals with ABI.
* Develop session plans that encourage musical exploration, skill development, and personal expression.
Facilitation and Instruction
* Lead group and one-on-one music therapy sessions, using various musical activities to promote cognitive, emotional, and social well-being.
* Introduce and guide participants in using different musical instruments and vocal techniques.
* Adapt activities to meet the diverse needs and abilities of participants.
Participant Engagement
* Foster a positive and inclusive environment where participants feel safe to express themselves.
* Encourage participation and engagement through creative and interactive musical experiences.
* Monitor and support participants progress, providing feedback and adjusting activities as needed.
Collaboration and Communication
* Collaborate with other staff members and volunteers to ensure a holistic approach to participant care.
* Communicate effectively with participants about the program and its benefits.
Documentation and Reporting
* Maintain accurate records of participant attendance, activities, and progress.
* Feedback to the volunteer coordinator on program outcomes and areas for improvement.
Qualifications
* Currently enrolled in or recently graduated from a music therapy program (preferred but not essential).
* Strong musical skills and proficiency in playing one or more instruments.
* Excellent interpersonal and communication skills.
* Empathetic and patient, with a genuine interest in helping individuals with special needs.
* Ability to work independently and as part of a team.
