Koitoya Design/Make/Teach is seeking an experienced furniture maker and teacher to join their team in Fyshwick, ACT. This full-time position is an opportunity to showcase your expertise in crafting high-quality, custom furniture pieces and teaching wood work to a wide range of student abilities. **MAIN DUTIES/RESPONSIBILITIES**:
- Making wooden furniture from drawings
- Teaching woodwork classes and workshops based on Japanese woodwork skills, tools and knowledge
**What you'll be doing**
- Interpreting design plans and specifications to create bespoke furniture pieces
- Using a range of hand and power tools to shape, join and finish wood materials with precision
- Undertaking all aspects of the furniture making process, from cutting and shaping to assembling and finishing
- Collaborating with the design team to translate concepts into functional, high-quality, visually appealing furniture
- Ensuring all work meets the highest standards of quality and safety
- Maintaining a clean, organised workspace and workshop equipment
- Running evening and weekend short courses in your own
- Developping teaching content as required
**SKILLS & EXPERIENCE**
**Qualifications**:
- 2 years of specialized furniture making or woodwork education based on Japanese tools and skills
**Experience required**:
- 1 year experience working in the fine furniture making industry
- 1 year experience teaching woodwork
**Skills required**:
- Experience in working with solid timber furniture making
- Experience in using woodwork machinery such as panel saw, jointer, thicknesser, spindle molder, tenoner, mortiser, bandsaw, lathe
- Experience in using Japanese handtools
- Good communication skills and ability to work in a team
- Good communication skills teaching students to achieve individual projects and develop their woodwork skills

Pay: $74,000.00 - $76,000.00 per year
Schedule:
- 8 hour shift

**Experience**:
- Furniture maker: 1 year (preferred)
