Bookseller (195 Hour Contract) – Location: Shop 18, Walmer Park Shopping Centre, Main Rd, Walmer, Port Elizabeth (Gqeberha)
Reporting to: Store Manager
Purpose of the Job
As a bookseller you will receive and unpack stock, categorize books and merchandise for the customer, focus on customer service ensuring the customer receives excellent service and delivery of their needs, and build up your book knowledge daily to build strong relationships with customers, driving up sales.
Responsibilities
* Customer Service – offer assistance to every customer entering the store with a friendly and positive attitude
* Housekeeping – keep the store clean and tidy
* Merchandising – ensure all window and in‐door displays are attractive, eye‐catching and refreshed every two weeks; maintain bestsellers in stock and on display
* Stock Management – assist the manager in measuring and controlling shrinkage
* Security – remain alert and aware of non‐shopper/shop‐lifter situations
* Book Knowledge – constantly build and deepen knowledge of the books in the store
* Sales and Upselling – build relationships with potential customers, upsell and cross‐sell, push promotions, recommend substitutes and alternatives
* Sourcing and Ordering – use lookup systems to source books for customers
* Admin and Control – manage cash up, credit card checks, wage payouts, shortage reports, supplier payouts, attendance register, email communication, gift vouchers, etc.
Qualifications
* Minimum matric; preferably retail or sales experience
* Marketing qualification, a degree in English literature, communications, journalism or similar helpful qualifications
* Energetic, well‐presented and physically strong and healthy
* Computer literacy and above‐average communication skills
* Ability to work well under pressure, follow through and commit
* Work well within a team and prepared to work long hours and alternate weekends
