Position Overview
This position will report to the Principal Software Engineer while working in a small dynamic team environment in collaboration with the greater Engineering team and other arms of the Franna business. As a Lead Software Engineer, you will be required to combine your theoretical skills with practical experience, to provide solutions to meet both internal and external customer requirements.
Responsibilities
* Provide engineering level support to current production and field related improvement opportunities.
* Proactively and regularly collaborate with the greater the engineering team, suppliers, customers and other stakeholders on directed projects to enabling guidance of the scope of software from project inception to project delivery and handover.
* Implement required development environments to perform software development and testing.
* Perform on-machine software validation in conjunction with cross-functional teams.
* Create quality software solutions that are modular, reliable, and readable, with the application of an Agile based approach to design and development, integrate and testing that has problem to solution-based focus and a continuous delivery mindset.
* Conduct software development activities in accordance with project outlines, established Franna processes, practices and standards, while activating seeking and working collaboratively to improve these processes, practices and standards.
* Publish software version releases including software version, change logs, in accordance with Franna software procedures.
* Provide project specific software documentation to a level that allows for collaboration from fellow developers and rework from future developers by utilizing internal documentation (comments in code), external documentation (confluence) and change logs (git) at minimum.
* Complete failure investigation and reporting.
* Deliver technical training for internal and external customers.
* Assist R&D engineering with improving existing products and conceptual ideas for new products.
* Mentor Junior Engineers, providing advice and guidance.
* Provide honest feedback and candour about the state of software releases and testing so that management can make and take responsibility for informed business decisions.
* Proactively communicate how any flexible work arrangements may affected your availability to deliver outcomes to the team.
Qualifications/Skills
:
* Tertiary qualifications in Software Engineering/Computer Science, or a complementary degree.
* 5 - 8+ years of experience with software implementation; minimum 5 years with embedded applications.
* Demonstrable experience building software applications in different environments.
* Demonstrable experience with project management and delivery of applications.
* Demonstrable ability to convert mathematical models into applications.
* Ability to assess program flow and likelihood of success for proposed changes.
* Knowledge of software structures and software control methodologies.
* Ability to take existing source code and assess requirements for ongoing development.
* Experience developing software in one or more of C/C++, Java, or Python.
* Advanced knowledge of J1939 and CANOpen data protocols and their implementation
* Knowledge of Safety Integrity Level with respect to software development
* Knowledge of software development standards, including functional safety standards
* Positive attitude and strong focus on delivering results for customers.
* Fluency with MS Office.
* Ability to travel nationally & internationally for business purposes.
* Highly Valued Experience:
* Knowledge of control, electrical, hydraulic, pneumatic and mechanical systems.
* Knowledge of emerging technologies within heavy vehicle and construction equipment sectors.
* Understanding of Human Machine Interface.
* Experience with mentoring / leading small teams.
* Knowledge of FMEA, APQP, PPAP, DVP&R processes.
