Join MacKellar as an HR Adviser and play a pivotal role in supporting leaders and employees across site. Reporting to the HR Superintendent, this hands-on role focuses on employee relations, performance management and building a positive, engaged workplace culture in a dynamic operational environment.
About the role
You will be the trusted first point of contact for HR and ER/IR matters, providing practical, compliant and solutions-focused advice to leaders at all levels. Working closely with the HR Superintendent, you'll manage a predominantly operational workload while contributing to broader people and culture initiatives across site.
Key responsibilities
* Provide accurate advice and interpretation of the Enterprise Agreement, policies and procedures across HR and ER/IR matters.
* Support and guide leaders through performance management, grievances, investigations and disciplinary processes, ensuring procedural fairness and consistency.
* Coach frontline leaders on effective people management, compliance and best-practice ER/IR application.
* Prepare and review employment-related documentation, including warnings, show cause letters, investigation outcomes and termination correspondence.
* Partner with leaders to strengthen workforce engagement, culture and communication.
* Actively contribute to camp committees, engagement initiatives and onsite communications.
* Manage a mix of approximately 80% operational and reactive HR/ER matters and 20% strategic and improvement-focused project work.
About you
* Tertiary qualifications in HR, Business or a related discipline, or equivalent practical experience.
* Minimum 5 years' experience in HR/ER/IR within mining, heavy industry or civil construction environments.
* Strong working knowledge of employment legislation and enterprise agreement interpretation.
* Proven experience managing complex employee relations matters and providing pragmatic, commercially sound advice.
* Excellent interpersonal and communication skills with the confidence to influence and support leaders.
* Collaborative, adaptable and comfortable working in a fast-paced site-based role.
