Job Title
We are seeking an experienced professional to play a critical role in promoting sustainable land management and protecting the Great Barrier Reef.
This position will work closely with agricultural producers in the reef catchment area, providing guidance and support to adopt regulated farm practices and reduce sediment and nutrient run-off.
The successful applicant will have strong communication and problem-solving skills, with experience in agriculture, environmental science or regulation an advantage.
We are looking for a proactive individual who can collaborate effectively with stakeholders, drive behaviour change and contribute to innovative strategies that benefit farms, communities and the environment.
This role is based in Cairns, Townsville, Mackay or Rockhampton and may require travel to other locations from time to time.
Key Responsibilities
* Deliver on-ground regulatory activities, such as farm inspections and permit assessments, to ensure compliance with agricultural standards.
* Engage with stakeholders, including agricultural producers, advisors and industry partners, using tailored communication strategies to promote the voluntary adoption of regulated farm practices.
* Collaborate with your team to address complex environmental issues and develop innovative regulatory approaches.
* Recommend enforcement actions where necessary and drive continuous improvement by seeking innovative solutions to manage environmental risks.
Qualifications & Skills
* Strong communication and problem-solving skills.
* Experience in agriculture, environmental science or regulation is helpful but not essential.
* A keen understanding of the environmental impact of the agricultural industry and the ability to quickly learn how to use regulatory tools.
* Ability to rapidly acquire knowledge of the Environmental Protection Act 1994 and relevant legislative frameworks and their implementation.
* Demonstrated proactive collaboration and the ability to work effectively with peers, supervisors and the wider departmental network.
