About the Role
As an Energy Trader, you will be responsible for buying and selling energy derivatives and environmental commodities within the Australian market. Your primary objective will be to optimize trading strategies and manage risks to generate profitable returns for the organization. You will closely monitor market trends, analyse data, and execute trades to capitalize on market opportunities. This position requires a deep understanding of energy markets, strong analytical skills, and the ability to make quick and informed decisions in a fast-paced trading environment.

Key Responsibilities
• Trading Execution: Execute energy trades within established risk limits and trading strategies. Monitor market conditions, identify profitable opportunities, and execute trades in a timely manner to maximize returns.
• Market Analysis: Conduct in-depth analysis of energy markets, including supply and demand fundamentals, price trends, regulatory developments, and geopolitical factors. Identify market risks and develop strategies to mitigate them.
• Risk Management: Monitor and manage trading positions to ensure compliance with risk limits and regulatory requirements.
• Financial Modelling: Develop and maintain financial models to assess the profitability and risk of trading strategies. Analyse trading performance and provide regular reports to management.
• Relationship Management: Build and maintain relationships with market participants, including energy producers, utilities, brokers, and other traders. Collaborate with internal teams to share market insights and coordinate trading activities.
• Compliance and Regulatory Adherence: Stay updated on relevant energy market regulations and ensure compliance with trading rules and guidelines. Maintain accurate trading records and provide necessary documentation as required.
• Technology and Tools: Utilize trading platforms, analytical tools, and market data to support trading decisions. Stay abreast of technological advancements and propose enhancements to trading systems and processes.
• Continuous Learning: Keep abreast of market trends, industry news, and new trading strategies. Attend conferences, seminars, and training programs to enhance knowledge and skills related to energy markets and trading
Education and Qualifications
• Years’ work experience 2+, including 2 years in Energy Trader or related
roles
• Tertiary qualifications Bachelor's degree in finance, economics,
mathematics, engineering, or a related field. A master's degree or
professional certification in finance or energy trading is a plus.
• AFMA Accreditation (or working towards) is a key requirement.
Skills & Experience
• Proven experience as an energy trader, preferably in the Australian
market. Familiarity with energy products such as electricity, natural
gas, and renewable energy certificates is highly desirable.
• Strong analytical skills with the ability to interpret complex data and
make informed trading decisions
• Proficiency in financial modelling and risk management techniques
• Excellent understanding of energy market dynamics, including supply
and demand fundamentals, price drivers, and regulatory frameworks.
• Familiarity with trading platforms, market data systems, and analytical
tools commonly used in energy trading.
• Strong interpersonal and communication skills to build relationships
with internal and external stakeholders.
• Ability to work under pressure, make quick decisions, and adapt to
changing market conditions
• High level of integrity and ethical conduct in adherence to trading
regulations and compliance requirements.
• Superior organisational ability and demonstrated self-motivation and
initiative in setting goals, prioritising work, managing multiple tasks,
and creating solutions
• Demonstrated personal resilience, including the ability to work under
pressure and manage stress effectively
