We have an exciting temporary full-time position available to join our Business Development team at TAFE Queensland's Acacia Ridge Campus. This opportunity is until 26 June 2026.

As the Senior Business Development Officer for TAFE Queensland SkillsTech, you will operate as a senior member of the Business Development team. In this role, you will be responsible for maximising revenue generation and growth potential for the SkillsTech Region by actively pursuing and negotiating business opportunities, with a particular focus on trade training across metropolitan Queensland. You will also act as a professional ambassador for TAFE Queensland by cultivating and maintaining mutually beneficial, respectful and effective relationships with key stakeholders and corporate clients. A further component of the role involves actively contributing to the achievement of established revenue targets.

This position reports to the Business Development and Marketing Manager and works closely with a multi-disciplinary Commercial Services business unit, as well as a range of other teams across the Region. The position will be based primarily at the Acacia Ridge campus; however, you may be required to perform work at other TAFE Queensland campuses.


Key Responsibilities

* Take a lead role in the development of commercial sales and business development plans and strategies in order to maximise market penetration, achieve revenue targets across multiple fund sources, and capitalise on both new commercial opportunities and the retention of existing customers.
* Utilise effective key account management strategies and techniques to develop and maintain professional partnerships with key clients, industry groups and government agencies for the benefit of TAFE Queensland.
* Ensure all commercial opportunities and contracts are captured in the applicable TAFE Queensland Customer Relationship Management (CRM) system.
* Actively contribute to the attainment of established commercial revenue targets, both individual and team-based, and provide a monthly update in relation to revenue milestones and pipeline.
* Undertake a range of activities associated with commercial contracts including:
o Preparation of costings, quotations, business cases, tenders, requests for information and proposals, as required, to support organisational initiatives.
o Negotiation and preparation of contracts, utilising the approved organisational legal and financial documentation (e.g. contract templates etc.); and
o Reviewing customer feedback in the spirit of continuous improvement and to assisting in identifying further commercial opportunities as they arise.
* Maintain strong professional relationships with a broad range of key internal stakeholders, including but not limited to Business Managers, Marketing and Communications, Client Services and Educational Delivery teams; proactively collaborating to develop effective industry engagement strategies, contract fulfilment strategies and the maintenance of strategic partnerships which enhance revenue for the Region.
* Represent the interests of the Region, and TAFE Queensland, in a range of circumstances relevant to the business development function, including but not limited to:
o Operating as an active member of the broader state-wide business development team, collaborating proactively on state-wide commercial opportunities for TAFE Queensland; and
o Actively engaging with industry bodies and acting as an organisational ambassador during key events (e.g. open days, industry engagement events, promotional events and other cultural and community activities).
* Maintain a thorough knowledge and understanding of both the educational and commercial aspects of TAFE Queensland, including:
o TAFE Queensland products and training programs, including the relevance of such in industry sectors (actively promoting these products and programs to maximise participants and encourage repeat business to increase revenue opportunity);
o Current Vocational Education and Training (VET) funding arrangements, legislation and compliance frameworks; and
o Financial and business performance and impact from external factors.
* Identify and research market opportunities and collaborate in the development of new products and commercialisation.
* Proactively participate in local Performance Planning and Development (PPD) processes, seeking opportunities for self-development and contributing to the development of the Commercial Services business unit.

How you will be assessed

1. Demonstrated business development experience in a competitive sales environment, and the ability to strategically identify, negotiate and finalise commercial sales opportunities on a business-to-business level.
2. Proven ability in the achievement of sales targets and commercial revenue achievement through the transformation of business acumen to enduring, successful partnerships.
3. Proven ability to develop and nurture productive internal and external stakeholder relationships (including the management of a complex corporate client base), build rapport and work collaboratively to achieve mutually beneficial, and commercially focussed, outcomes.
4. Excellent written and verbal communication skills, including the ability to negotiate and influence, and develop relevant business documents to effectively promote TAFE Queensland and capitalise on competitive market opportunities.
5. Proven ability to work effectively with, and contribute to a high performing team, identifying opportunities for business improvement and proactively seeking and facilitating opportunities for self-development and the development of others.


Qualifications / Requirements

* Significant experience in the VET sector, ideally with a solid understanding of industry;
* Tertiary level qualifications in business, commerce or related discipline.
