Job Description
We are seeking an Aboriginal Peer Support Specialist to provide crucial support, information and linkage to mental health services in rural and remote communities.
About the Role
This is a temporary full-time position where you will work with individuals, families and communities who have been affected by natural disasters. Your role will involve providing peer support, networking and promoting early intervention, prevention and recovery.
Key Skills and Qualifications
* Aboriginal and/or Torres Strait Islander descent and established links with local Aboriginal community.
* Lived experience in accessing Mental Health support for self or others and completion of Certificate IV Mental Health Peer Work or willingness to complete same within 12 months.
* Experience of living and/or working in rural and remote communities and awareness of impact of natural disasters on individuals, family relationships and communities.
* Demonstrated knowledge of and commitment to mental health and wellbeing of agricultural community and experience in helping others navigate access to supports for prolonged stress.
* Knowledge of and ability to plan, implement and evaluate group and individual peer support interventions.
* Collaborative team player with effective negotiation, time management, written and verbal communication skills.
* Current unrestricted drivers' licence and ability to maintain it. Ability and willingness to drive/travel as the role requires.
Working Requirements
This is a Category 'A' position. All new employees must agree to comply with NSW Health policy directive requirements. OASV requirements include proof of vaccination against influenza and compulsory for NSW Staff that enter any Residential Aged Care Facility (RACF) or who work in NSW Health owned and operated RACFs.
