* Competitive remuneration ranging from $129,464 to $142,665 plus super & annual leave loading.





The Department is seeking an experienced Senior Technical Specialist to join our established team responsible for the ongoing management, optimisation, and uplift of large-scale Edge Server, UPS, and associated infrastructure solutions supporting NSW public schools.

This role is fundamental to the development, implementation, and ongoing support of edge infrastructure solutions across a highly complex and geographically distributed environment. The position provides third-level SME escalation support, resolves operational BAU incidents, and works closely with schools and cross-functional technical teams to maintain high levels of service availability, resilience, and performance.

Success in this role requires a technically strong and forward-thinking professional with expertise in edge infrastructure, a commitment to continuous service improvement, and the ability to apply strategic and analytical thinking to complex technical challenges.

Equally important is the ability to foster a positive and collaborative team culture, demonstrate clear and confident communication skills, and maintain a strong focus on delivering reliable services that directly support learning outcomes in every NSW public school classroom.

About you

* Strong customer service experience, focusing on solution delivery, service health and availability.
* Demonstrated technical expertise in edge servers, UPS infrastructure, and associated platform services.
* Sound understanding of operational procedures, service monitoring tools (SCOM preferred) and solution implementation.
* Exceptional communication skills, with the ability to build and maintain effective stakeholder relationships at all levels.
* Knowledge of and commitment to implementing the Department’s Aboriginal Education Policy and upholding the Department’s Partnership Agreement with the NSW AECG and to ensure quality outcomes for Aboriginal people.



Essential requirements of the role

* Industry certification in relevant technologies or equivalent industry experience.
* Hold a valid NSW Working with children Check (WWCC) for paid employment.
* Demonstrated understanding of and commitment to the value of public education.

* Describe a complex technical infrastructure service in which you played a lead role in its development and implementation.

Outline how you ensured the solution was scalable, resilient and secure to meet business and operational requirements. Explain the key architectural and technical decisions that formed your approach and how risks were mitigated.

Detail how you led, mentored or coordinated other technical staff throughout the implementation, including how you allocated responsibilities, maintained delivery momentum and ensured quality outcomes.

Explain how the service was transitioned into an ongoing operational state, including service monitoring, documentation, knowledge transfer and the use of automation to enable sustainable, supportable service delivery. (500 Words)



2. Provide an example of a critical service outage for which you were responsible for the technical resolution.



Describe the service impact of the outage, the technical analysis and diagnostic approach you undertook, and the rationale behind your decision-making throughout the resolution process. Outline how you coordinated with technical teams, engaged leadership, and maintained visibility and communication with stakeholders during the incident.



Detail the challenges encountered during remediation or implementation of the fix, how you mitigated risks, and how you ensured alignment to agreed timelines and service restoration targets.



Conclude by reflecting on the lessons learned and what you would do differently if faced with a similar incident in the future. (500 Words)
