About the team

The City Laws team provides education and enforcement services across a diverse range of Local and State Laws to protect the safety, accessibility and amenity for the City's residents and visitors.

About the role

City Laws Compliance is seeking a temporary (36 months) full-time City Laws Officer - Littering and Illegal Dumping to work within a dynamic team delivering specialist regulatory services. This role is designed to provide proactive and targeted compliance enforcement across the city, responding to and investigating litter and illegal dumping across high-density, rural and hotspot areas, conducting educational and enforcement campaigns and engaging with the community.

Key Responsibilities:

* Conduct targeted compliance campaigns in high-density and hotspot areas for illegal dumping and littering.
* Perform door-to-door proactive compliance checks and educational engagements.
* Operate the education sign trailer in strategic locations to enhance public awareness.
* Install regulatory signage in identified problem areas for better compliance enforcement.
* Undertake complex investigations into persistent illegal dumping offences in high-density areas.
* Collaborate with existing officers for coordinated enforcement actions.
* Conduct regular site inspections to identify emerging illegal dumping hotspots.
* Maintain accurate records of all investigations, interactions, and enforcement activities.
* Provide educational materials and compliance advice to residents and businesses.
* Report and recommend locations for overt camera installations.
* Participate in community events to promote littering and illegal dumping awareness.
* Conduct follow-up inspections to ensure compliance with issued directions or notices.
* Liaise with other departments and external stakeholders to resolve complex cases.
* Adapt and respond rapidly to emerging illegal dumping complaints across the city.
* Capture and report littering/illegal dumping data to Department Environment, Tourism, Science, and Innovation.

We're looking for people who have:

* Demonstrated high-level investigation skills with the ability to manage complex cases.
* Strong proactive approach to compliance and community engagement.
* Excellent verbal and written communication skills, including report writing and conflict resolution.
* Ability to manage conflict situations calmly and effectively.
* High resilience and ability to maintain composure in high-pressure scenarios.
* Strong organisational skills, with the ability to manage a high volume of work efficiently.
* Ability to interpret and apply legislation, operating procedures, and work instructions.
* Proficiency in the use of technology for investigations, reporting, and data management.
* Possess a current C Class driver's licence.
