In your new role as Director of Scam Prevention, you will spearhead our enterprise-wide efforts to combat scams, and protect our customers, systems and reputation. Initially you will build and lead a high-performing team to implement scalable solutions that detect, prevent and disrupt scam activity across the Optus networks. Your role involves promoting a culture of scam prevention by utilising technology and partnering with other departments across Optus to incorporate consistent methodologies into our scam management systems. You will also ensure compliance with Australia's regulatory requirements.
The day to day
1. Lead all aspects of the implementation of robust and scalable tools and technologies (e.g., AI, machine learning, real-time analytics) that improve scam detection capabilities.
2. Define a clear, long-term strategy for the company's scam prevention efforts.
3. Build positive relationships with external partners, including law enforcement agencies, industry groups, and fraud prevention organisations.
4. Work closely with senior leaders across the business to embed scam prevention into core business processes.
* Build, lead and scale a specialised scam prevention team, including hiring, training, and mentoring professionals.
Key Capabilities & Experience
5. Deep expertise in fraud prevention, financial crime, risk management, cybersecurity, telecommunications or a related domain
6. Proven leadership in establishing or driving enterprise-wide scam mitigation programs
7. Demonstrated ability to lead strategic, organisation-wide scam prevention initiatives
8. Strong understanding of Australian regulatory and legal frameworks
9. Skilled in stakeholder engagement and cross-functional collaboration
10. Experienced in managing scam incidents and rapid response across complex organisations
11. Strong knowledge of data and analytics in scam detection and prevention
12. Familiarity with scam typologies, financial crime trends, and evolving threat landscapes
13. Able to design and deliver impactful awareness and education campaigns
* Understanding of cybersecurity and scam prevention technologies
