The business has secured a long-term program of work with a key client and is creating a new leadership role to build and strengthen its design capability. About the Role
Reporting to the National Engineering Manager, the Design Manager will establish and lead the design function for a newly awarded multi-year program of works. The role will be central to delivering innovative and cost-effective design solutions across HV distribution networks, substations, and broader infrastructure projects that underpin the transition to a more sustainable energy future.
The position will manage internal design resources as well as external consultancies, coordinate surveys and early-stage project briefs, and oversee design delivery through to execution. There will also be involvement in site commissioning to ensure continuity from design to implementation.
Key Responsibilities
 * Lead the delivery of design works from early-stage briefs through to execution readiness.
 * Manage internal design teams and external consultants, ensuring quality, compliance, and cost-effectiveness.
 * Act as a design-focused project manager, coordinating surveys, budgets, and resourcing.
 * Build and mentor a local design team, including the recruitment of a Design Coordinator.
 * Engage directly with the client as a trusted partner, providing solutions and technical leadership.
About You
You may be a Lead Design Engineer ready to step up, or an Engineering Manager experienced in delivering new scopes of work. You will bring strong HV distribution and design delivery experience, commercial acumen, and the ability to solve problems in early project stages. Confidence in client-facing roles and a willingness to base yourself in the ACT are essential.
