Victoria Aboriginal Legal Service (VALS) is an Aboriginal Community Controlled Organisation dedicated to providing culturally safe legal and support services for Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander people across Victoria. Established in 1973, VALS is the state's only specialist legal service for Aboriginal communities, offering advocacy and support in criminal, family, civil, and human rights law.

About the Role
As a Client Service Officer (CSO) in our Aboriginal Families Practice, you'll be the vital cultural link between Aboriginal community members, VALS lawyers, and the court system. You'll help clients navigate child protection, family violence, and family law processes in a culturally safe and supportive way.
This role is perfect for someone passionate about community engagement and advocacy, with a strong connection to Aboriginal culture and a desire to make a real impact.
What You'll Do
* Support clients through case work, risk and needs assessments
* Attend Magistrates, Children's, and Family Courts to assist client participation
* Provide transport assistance, welfare checks, advocacy, and referrals
* Help clients understand legal processes in a culturally safe manner
* Build strong community engagement and referral partnerships
* Represent VALS at regional forums and community networks
* Maintain accurate case notes and contribute to team collaboration
What We're Looking For
* Certificate, diploma, or degree in community services, social work, or related field OR relevant experience with willingness to study
* Knowledge of the Victorian legal system and issues affecting Aboriginal communities
* Strong communication skills and ability to work independently and in a team
* Proficiency in Microsoft Office and client record systems
* A strong connection to and experience engaging with the Aboriginal community
