**About the role**:
As the Payroll Team Leader you will be responsible for the delivery of accurate, responsive and timely payroll services for our Australian Government department's APS in Australia and overseas. Some of your key duties will include the processing of payroll variations, leave entitlements and interpretation and provision of advice regarding complex conditions of service.
You will be supervising a small team of payroll officers including support, training and assisting with moderately complex to complex enquires.
To succeed in this role you will have extensive knowledge and understanding of payroll systems, processes and polices.
**Duties**
- Processing/checking of pay variations including overtime and restriction claims, allowances, tax variations and salary sacrifice deductions.
- Management of employee taxation and superannuation entitlements
- Processing permanent and temporary movements, non-ongoing extensions, home based work and part time work approvals.
- Ensuring the Payroll team is ready for cut-off each fortnight and assist the Payroll Manager to run the fortnightly pay where required.
- Processing and management of studies assistance reimbursements.
- Calculation and processing of overseas posting and short-term overseas assignment pay entitlements.
- Compensation payment processing.
- Processing pay increases and IFA allowances.
- End of year processing, including payment summary processing and reconciliation, and ATO reporting.
- Calculate/check final entitlements and provide advice on various separation entitlements (including redundancies).
- Regular audit of records and system to ensure Aurion records are maintained to a high level
**Required experience and skills**
- Strong written and verbal communication skills
- Experience researching, interpreting, and communicating relevant legislation and polices to ensure accurate and timely advice.
- Ability to organise work, set priorities and meet deadlines both individually and for a team.
- Proven stakeholder engagement skills including the ability to interact effectively with clients and staff of all levels and exercise discretion and confidentiality.
- Numeracy skills, high degree of accuracy and attention to detail.
- Experience with Aurion would be advantageous but is not required.
- Awareness of the digital environment and how to engage with clients in a digital first manner.
- Confidently use digital workplace tools to solve problems, be productive, connect and collaborate with others.
