About the Role
We are seeking a highly experienced Engineer to safely and effectively construct, operate, and manage Hidden Valley Mine’s Tailings Storage Facilities (TSFs).
Key Details

Construction & Delivery
- Plan, manage, and execute TSF construction works, including lifts, buttresses, drains, and associated infrastructure.
- Deliver construction outcomes on time, within budget, and to specification, in accordance with EoR direction.
- Manage contractor performance to ensure high standards of workmanship, safety, and compliance.
Operations & Deposition Management
- Oversee daily deposition planning, pond control, and freeboard management.
- Implement operational strategies that optimise water balance and embankment sequencing.
- Ensure continuous monitoring and adjustment of deposition practices for safety and efficiency.
Budget & Resource Management
- Develop and manage annual TSF budgets, ensuring cost-effective delivery of construction and operations.
- Control expenditures, approve contractor invoices, and ensure financial accountability.
- Provide forecasting and cost tracking for ongoing and future TSF works.
QA/QC & Compliance
- Implement and oversee QA/QC programs for earthworks, compaction, and drainage systems.
- Maintain complete construction records, materials testing data, and as-built documentation.
- Ensure compliance with EoR‑approved designs, specifications, and regulatory requirements.
Safety & Risk Control
- Embed a strong safety culture across construction and operational teams.
- Enforce compliance with TSF‑specific TARPs, critical controls, and emergency procedures.
- Lead hazard identification and risk mitigation for construction and operational activities.
Leadership & People Development
- Directly manage supervisors, operators, and contractors, ensuring clarity of roles and accountability.
- Mentor national staff, developing skills in construction execution and operational excellence.
- Build a high‑performance team culture aligned with site values and safety‑first principles.
Stakeholder Engagement
- Act as the operational interface with the EoR, Principal Engineer, and site management.
- Provide transparent reporting on construction progress, budgets, and TSF performance.
- Collaborate with processing, HSE, and water management teams to ensure integrated planning.
Qualifications
- Relevant tertiary qualification in Civil Engineering, Geotechnical Engineering or Mining Engineering.
- Highly experienced in construction operations and technical/engineering design implementation.
- A self‑starter who is results driven; anticipates and implements solutions.
- Experienced in design and scheduling software, strategic planning and operations.
- Willing to take strong and effective action to manage capital investments.
- Committed to continuous improvement; recommends and develops innovative processes.
- Highly effective and motivational leader.

Additional Requirements
- Must meet the requirements for a PNG Work Permit application (organised by Harmony) and a Federal Police Clearance.
- Must have the right to live and work in Australia as this will be the travel base for this role.
- Successful candidate will be required to undertake a comprehensive pre‑employment medical screen, including drug and alcohol testing.
