Deputy General Manager - Operations
Permanent Full-Time
Location: Based in Noble Park North, VIC
Shape Culture. Lead Change.
Deliver Clinical Excellence.
National Patient Transport (NPT) plays a vital role in Australia's healthcare system, delivering non-emergency patient transport services 24/7 across Victoria, New South Wales, and Western Australia. With more than 900 staff nationally, NPT sits at the intersection of clinical care, operational precision, and public trust.
We are seeking a Deputy General Manager – Operations to join our executive leadership team and play a central role in shaping how our organisation operates, leads, and evolves.
This is a role for a senior leader who understands that culture is built through systems, decisions, and behaviours, and leads by example.
The Opportunity
You will operate at a strategic and enterprise level, while remaining close enough to the operational reality to lead change that makes a difference.
Your influence will be felt in how:
* Leaders lead and are held accountable
* Teams work together under pressure
* Clinical quality, efficiency, and accountability are balanced in practice
* How NPT responds to increasing demand, regulation, and operational complexity
You will be trusted to challenge constructively, simplify where possible, and build alignment across operations, clinical governance, finance, and workforce functions.
What You Will Lead
Rather than managing tasks, you will lead outcomes.
This includes:
* Setting clear operational expectations and performance standards across a large, multi-state clinical workforce
* Leading service improvement and change initiatives that strengthen quality, efficiency, and patient experience
* Embedding a culture of accountability, professionalism, and continuous improvement aligned with NPT's HEART values
* Strengthening collaboration between frontline operations, operational leadership, and executive teams
* Playing a visible leadership role in clinical governance, risk management, and incident oversight
* Partnering with the GM – Operations and CFO to balance service quality with commercial discipline
This role carries genuine authority and responsibility, including participation in an on-call executive roster.
The Leader We're Looking For
You are an experienced senior leader who is comfortable operating in complex, evolving environments.
You likely bring:
* Significant senior leadership experience within a regulated healthcare, ambulance, or patient transport environment, underpinned by tertiary clinical qualifications.
* A strong understanding of how culture, systems, and performance intersect
* Confidence leading large, diverse, and unionised workforces
* The ability to engage credibly with clinicians, executives, regulators, and external stakeholders
* A leadership style that is calm, clear, and decisive, particularly when things don't go to plan
You are not afraid of responsibility, and you understand that meaningful leadership includes visibility, difficult conversations, and consistency over time.
Why Join NPT
* A genuinely influential executive role with scope to shape the organisation's future
* The opportunity to lead change in a purpose-driven, clinically focused organisation
* A values-led culture that expects high standards and personal accountability
* Backing from ComfortDelGro Corporation Australia, part of a global transport group with long-term stability
This role will suit someone who wants to leave an imprint on an organisation, not simply occupy a seat.
